Mahindra has teased the sibling of the e20, India's only electric hatchback. This car, now dubbed the 'e20 Plus' comes with a longer wheelbase and four doors. As a result, the e2o accommodates four passengers with ease while the older e20 could only claim to a have a functional rear seat. As reported earlier, the launch of this electric vehicle will take place tomorrow and we expect it to be priced around the Rs 7.5-8.0 lakh mark.

In this price bracket, the e20 Plus will fall in the category of premium diesel hatchbacks like the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo. Mahindra also has the electric e-Verito sedan in the market, which is priced at Rs 9.5 lakh and goes up to Rs 10 lakh for the top-end 'fast charge' variant.

Coming to the driving bits, it will most likely feature the same powertrain as the one on the e20, with slight improvements. The company claims that the e2o Plus will have a longer running time than the smaller sibling, which ran about 120km on a single charge of five hours. The power and torque figures of 25.8PS/53Nm are expected to remain the same. The quick-charging feature of the e20 – which fully charges the batteries in just one hour – will make its way into the e2o Plus as well. A normal charge takes four hours and Mahindra's 'Sun2Car' stations can charge the car in 10 hours.

Coming to the design, the e2o Plus will remain identical to the current e2o, with minor tweaks. The grille in the front now features chrome 'whiskers' like all of Mahindra’s new SUVs. The dip near the C-pillar in the e2o has been elongated in the e2o Plus to accommodate the extra doors. The door handles will most likely be placed on the C-pillars, like in the Chevrolet Beat. Also worth mentioning in the design is the new projector headlamp, rear spoiler and the all-new set of LED tail lamps. Inside, the car will continue to feature a similar dashboard with a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration and navigation system and a climate-control system.

The e2o Plus will be the first EV under the new ‘Mahindra Electric’ moniker. We expect it to do better than the two-door e2o in the market for the simple fact that it is a much more practical family car.
