The Seltos SUV will be followed by a premium MPV offering from the Korean carmaker

  • Carnival MPV already exists as an international product known as the Grand Carnival and Sedona.

  • Expected to be offered in both 7-seater and 8-seater configurations.

  • Likely to get only its 2.2-litre diesel engine option which makes 202PS of power.

  • Carnival will sit above the Innova Crysta with expected prices between Rs 22 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.

  • India launch expected in the first half of 2020.

Kia will be launching its very first product in India in August 2019, and we now know what’s coming after the Seltos SUV. The Kia Carnival MPV has long been expected to be on Kia’s list and now it’s confirmed to be the Korean carmaker’s second offering in India.

Unlike the Seltos, which is an all-new Kia model that made its global debut in the country, the Carnival is already on sale in international markets by the name of Sedona or Grand Carnival. In India, Kia is likely to call it the Carnival only. This premium MPV is expected to be offered in both 7-seater and 8-seater configurations.

The Carnival will most likely be offered in India with its 2.2-litre diesel engine which has an output of 202PS and 440Nm. In its international spec, it comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission only.  Kia will be positioning the Carnival a step above the likes of the Toyota Innova Crysta in the MPV segment.

The Korean offering is significantly bigger than the Japanese option in nearly every measure, except height. It also has a more premium experience to offer in that extra space with features such as electric sliding rear doors, plush interiors, three-zone climate control, 360-degree camera and more. Also, the Carnival is a monocoque design while the Innova uses a ladder-on-frame design.

The Kia Carnival is expected to launch in India in the first half of 2020. Kia is aiming for upto 60 per cent localisation for the manufacturing of its premium MPV to achieve an expected price range of Rs 22 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. While there are other MPVs available in India, the Innova Crysta will be the only rival to the Carnival as a premium offering at a similar price point.
