Fiat Linea despatched to dealers

Fiat India Automobiles Limited (FIAL), the joint venture of Fiat and Tata Motors, has despatched the first batch of its most awaited sedan, Linea from its plant in Ranjangaon Maharashtra.

Fiat Linea, targeted to the premium C-segment, have reached 50 out of 65 dealerships under the Tata - Fiat umbrella across the country. This joint venture will see retailing of cars of both companies under one roof. More number of Fiat Linea will be seen in these outlets very soon even though its official launch is in mid-January 2009. The price of the car will be announced which is tipped to be in the range of Rs 7-9 lakh.

In next few days, the prospective customers of Linea could get an idea of what this car represents. This is clearly part of a brand building approach by FIAL intended to pave the way for a faster booking schedule. The company official had stated earliar that company is targeting monthly sales of 2,500 Linea. This may seem a challenging task due to slowdown in auto market which coupled with the fact that there are strong competing models available in the premium C-segment such as the SX4, Fiesta and Honda City.

Fiat Linea will be available in both petrol and diesel versions. From this Italian carmaker point of view, it is significant because it is the first manufactured model from the Ranjangaon manufacturing plant in contrast to the Fiat 500, which is directly imported and costs a handful thanks to the 100 percent plus import duty.
