Overview

Fiat Linea is a family sedan that received a mid-life facelift last year. This sedan is manufactured by the Italian automobile giant Fiat and was rolled out in petrol and diesel variants. Now, a new variant has been added to its portfolio that is called as the Fiat Linea Elegante Limited Edition. This trim is blessed with an exclusive set of exterior features like panoramic black roof, sporty body kit, chrome garnish on outside mirrors and a set of stylish alloy wheels. With these cosmetic updates, this sedan looks sportier and much more stylish than the other existing variants. At the same time, it also received interior features like new seat covers, an infotainment system with 6.5-inch touchscreen and exclusive door sills. However, this variant is available as a diesel trim only that houses a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine under its hood. This highly acclaimed engine is capable of producing 91.7bhp of peak power and delivers a mileage of 20.4 Kmpl. On the other hand, there are no updates given to the existing variants and they are continue to be available with same features. Fiat Linea Gear

Acceleration & Pick-Up

Ed's Take : The acceleration of the T-Jet is amazing and it is first turbo-petrol in its segment. The power produced by this is good and it produces about 114bhp.

With the help of a five speed manual transmission gear box, its diesel engine has the ability to attain a top speed in the range of 165 to 175 Kmph. At the same time, it propels the vehicle to breach the speed mark of 100 Kmph in nearly 13.8 seconds. While the petrol trims with a T-Jet power plant allows the sedan to accelerate towards 100 Kmph from a standstill in just 11.14 seconds. It can attain a top speed of 170 Kmph, which is rather impressive. On the other hand, the FIRE petrol mill enables the vehicle to achieve a top speed of about 160 Kmph and it can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in close to 15 seconds from a standstill.

Engine and Performance

Ed's Take : The Linea performs well in the city and the highway. The diesel has some turbo-lag and this means some extra effort in shifting gears in the city.

As said above, this Fiat Linea sedan series is available in both petrol and diesel engine options for the buyers to choose from. The diesel trims are fitted with come a 1.3-litre, multijet power plant that has a total displacement capacity of 1248cc. This engine comprises of four cylinders and sixteen valves using double overhead camshaft based valve configuration. This commanding mill is further incorporated with a variable geometry turbocharger, which enhances on road performance. It has the ability to produce a maximum power of 91.7bhp at 4000rpm and yields a peak torque output of 209Nm at 2000rpm that is rather good for Indian road and traffic conditions. On the other hand, the petrol variants are fitted with a 1.4-litre, T-Jet petrol mill that comes with a displacement capacity of 1368cc. It is also integrated with four cylinders and sixteen valves. This power plant is incorporated with a multi point fuel injection system that helps in giving a decent fuel economy under standard driving conditions. This enables the motor to generate 112.4bhp of maximum power output at 5000rpm in combination with a peak torque output of 207Nm at just 2200rpm. While, the base variant of petrol version is equipped with the same 1.4-litre FIRE petrol mill is capable of producing a maximum power of 88.8bhp at 6000rpm and generates a peak torque output of 115Nm at 4500rpm. These motors are skillfully coupled with a five speed manual transmission gearbox that allows torque distribution to its front wheels and improves the engine's performance.

Fiat Linea Mileage

Mileage

Ed's take: The Linea will retain the same engines, hence there won’t be a major change in the fuel economy of the sedan. It will still boost the 1.4-litre petrols and 1.3-litre diesel mills. The diesel will be the most fuel-efficient of the lot.

Its 1368cc petrol engine is integrated with a multi point fuel injection system, which enhances the fuel efficiency of this sedan. It has the ability of generating about 12 kmpl in city traffic conditions and its mileage goes up to 15.7 kmpl on the expressways. While the trim with 1.4-litre FIRE petrol mill delivers a maximum mileage of 14.9 Kmpl, when driven on highways and close to 10 Kmpl within the city limits. On the other hand, the diesel variants are powered by a 1248cc motor that is incorporated with a common rail direct injection system. It enables the vehicle to return around 14 kmpl of mileage within the city, while giving away 20.4 kmpl on bigger roads.

Power of Fiat Linea

Ed's Take : The power produced by the diesel engine is good, however the power from the petrol is even better. The T-Jet is one of the most powerful cars in its segment.

Its 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol power plant has the ability of generating a peak power of 112.4bhp at 5000rpm in combination with a peak torque output of 207Nm at 2200rpm. At the same time, its entry level variant is powered by 1.4-litre FIRE petrol mill that can churn out a power of 88.8bhp in combination with a torque output of 115Nm. On the other hand, the diesel trims are powered by an advanced 1.3-litre Multijet engine. It has the capacity of generating a peak power of 91.7bhp at 4000rpm along with a commanding torque of 209Nm at 2000rpm.

Fiat Linea Accessories

Stereo & Accessories

Ed's Take : The Linea comes loaded with several bells and whistles like music system with mp3, USB, Bluetooth; steering mounted audio controls, Blue and Me and climate control.

The latest variant (Elegante Edition) of this model series is blessed with 6.5-inch multifunctional touchscreen infotainment system that enhances the in-cabin ambiance. The Active trims are available with an integrated music system, which supports CD/MP3 player and radio with AM/FM tuner along with four speakers. While the mid and high end variants are blessed with an advanced audio unit that has various input options. It is bestowed with an in-built USB port which is useful for connecting pen-drive or mobile phone. Besides these, it has Blue&Me hands free system which is a key feature offered in this vehicle. This allows pairing of Bluetooth mobile phone along with making and receiving calls by a simple voice command. It has a tilt steering wheel mounted with audio as well as Bluetooth controls. Apart from these, the owners can customize the vehicle with various exterior and interior features. The list of accessories includes stylish body graphics, rear spoiler, alloy wheels, day time running light, navigation system, seat covers, floor mats and so on.

You can now buy Fiat Linea accessories online. Great discounts available.

Braking & Handling

Ed's Take : The braking and the handling of the Fiat Linea is just amazing. It is probably one of the best in its segment.

The company has given this sedan a proficient braking as well as reliable suspension mechanism, which keeps it stable in every condition. Its T-Jet versions are incorporated with an advanced disc braking mechanism. The front wheels are fitted with a set of ventilated disc brakes, while the rear ones have solid disc brakes. On the other hand, the front wheels of its diesel variants have been equipped with ventilated disc brakes and drum brakes are used for the rear ones, which works exceptionally well in all conditions. It is further assisted by an advanced anti lock braking system that improves this mechanism and prevents it from skidding especially on slippery roads. For maintaining the vehicle's stability, the company has used an independent wheel to its front axle, while the rear one gets a torsion beam type of mechanism. Both these axles are further loaded with helical coil springs along with double acting telescopic dampers and stabilizer bars that enables it to deal with all the jerks caused on roads. It is incorporated with a highly responsive power steering system that offers smooth and precise steering feel. This tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel supports a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters, which is rather good for this class.

Safety & Security

Ed's Take : The safety features on the Linea include dual airbags and ABS. The handling of this Italian sedan is just stunning and is one of the USPs.

The latest version of this good looking sedan is incorporated with numerous protective aspects that ensure protection of its passengers as well as the vehicle. The company has given it an advanced engine immobilizer with rolling code that prevents the vehicle from theft and any unauthorized access into it. The 3-point ELR (emergency locking retracting) seat belts are given for all passengers along with pretensioner and load limiter, which maximizes the safety of the occupants sitting inside. It also has a driver seat belt reminder notification along with buzzer, which is a plus point. This sedan has a rigid body structure featuring crumple zones and impact beams for reducing the impact of collision. For keeping the vehicle agile, it has been bestowed with anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. Apart from these, it is equipped with double crank prevention system, programmable speed limit indicator, front and rear fog lamps that enhances the visibility in foggy conditions, exact door open indicators, dual front airbags with early crash sensors and Fire Prevention System that automatically cuts-off the fuel-flow in case of impact. All these features put together makes it one of the safest vehicle in its segment.

Fiat Linea Wheels

Wheels

This stylish sedan is offered with both steel and alloy wheels, depending on the variants. The Active trims are fitted with a set of 15-inch steel wheels, which also have been covered with full wheel covers. These rims are equipped with a set of tubeless tyres of size 195/60 R15. The mid range variants have a set of 15-inch alloy wheels that are covered with high quality radials of the same size. Whereas, the wheel arches of Emotion trims are fitted with a modish set of 16-inch alloy wheels, which are covered with high performance tubeless radial tyres of size 205/55 R16 that provides excellent grip on roads. On the other hand, the wheel arches of newly launched Elegante edition are fitted with a brand new set of 16-inch alloy wheels, which enhances the look of its side profile.

Pros

1. Spacious internal cabin with sufficient leg space and head room.

2. Decent ground clearance is a plus point.

3. Availability of ABS in high end trim is an advantage.

4. Braking and suspension system are quite efficient.

5. Sleek and lustrous body design makes it look attractive.

Cons

1. Fuel economy of petrol mill is not up to the mark.
