Renault KWID
The Renault Kwid is the most affordable Renault car you can buy in India. And what makes it stand out is its looks, where the rugged design makes it look like a small SUV. Four occupants can sit comfortably in the Kwid and it also has a decently sized boot for your luggage. And while you get all the essential features you need, it does offer a rear parking camera over its rivals. The Kwid gets just a single 1-litre petrol engine that offers adequate performance and can be paired with a manual or an AMT.

Renault KWID price
Kwid has 6 variants from ₹4.30L across 0.8L 3-cyl petrol (54 PS) and 1.0L 3-cyl petrol (68 PS — CLIMBER only), with 5MT and 5-AMT — Renault's entry-level hatchback that pioneered the SUV-styled compact in India. Authentic AMT (₹4.30L) is the safety base with dual airbags, ABS+EBD, hill hold (AMT only), manual climate, fabric seats, body-coloured bumpers and 13-inch steel wheels. Evolution (from ₹4.53L) adds all-four power windows, central locking with remote and body-coloured ORVMs. Techno (from ₹4.90L) is where it stops feeling basic — smart key push start, automatic climate, 20.32cm touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay + Android Auto, electric ORVMs, rear washer + wiper, leatherette steering and 14-inch dual-tone styled wheels. 1.0 CLIMBER (from ₹5.15L) tops it off with the 1.0L engine (more punch for highway), Climber styling pack with orange accents, leatherette seats, faux-skid plates, roof rails and matt black cladding. The Anniversary Edition AMT (₹5.63L) and CLIMBER Dual Tone overlay cosmetic styling. Most buyers land at Techno MT (₹4.90L) — touchscreen with wireless CarPlay, automatic climate, push start, alloys and dual airbags — without paying ~₹1.09L extra for 1.0 CLIMBER DT AMT's 1.0L engine, Climber styling, dual-tone roof and AMT auto.

-
September 2, 2025: Buyers of the Renault Kwid will have to wait around 2 to 3 weeks to get delivery if booked in September.
-
August 18, 2025: Renault dispatched 265 units of its entry-level Kwid hatchback in July 2025.

This funky micro-SUV first debuted in 2015, and has soldiered on with minor updates over the years for nearly a decade. The only direct rival to the Kwid is Maruti Suzuki’s S-Presso. However, for a similar budget, you can also consider slightly larger cars such as the Celerio/WagonR or even the Tata Punch.

For taller people, around 6 feet, the rear seats feel cramped in every sense. It's also best not to seat three adults back here because the width is short and there’s also no headrest for the middle passenger. Weirdly, there used to be a central armrest here, which has now been removed.

The driver’s display looks quite funky, with a simple digitised display in the centre that shows speed, fuel efficiency, and trip info. That said, the design of the tachometer and speedometer doesn’t really feel accurate and a simple analogue cluster would have been better and much more accurate here.
One big highlight is the Kwid’s rear view camera, which is a unique feature at this price point. The video feed is clear and there are static guidelines to help with parking as well.
But given the Kwid’s price point, you can’t really expect any more features. Because, besides the sound system, the Kwid’s feature package is good and doesn’t leave you wanting more.
Global NCAP gave the Kwid a safety rating of 2 stars for adult and child occupant safety.
