Skoda Rapid to adorn 1.6 petrol and diesel engines under the hood

Skoda India is expected to launch its new sedan Skoda Rapid after Diwali in India targeting under Rs 7 lakhs for its base variant. Not just the interiors with similar dashboard and audio controls, the Skoda Rapid is said to have the same 1.6 L engines as well. The top power output of 103 PS will also match with the power output in Volkswagen Vento.The production of the sedan has already begun in Volkswagen’s Chakan plant where the Volkswagen Vento is manufactured.

The spied images and the leaked specifications show that Skoda Rapid shares more than a few similarities of Volkswagen Vento. With lower price tag in comparison to Volkswagen Vento and probably a better car, the chances of Skoda Rapid eating into Volkswagen Vento sales seems high. The variation in the sedans comes in terms of the automatic gearbox that mates the diesel engine in Skoda Rapid, which is missing in case of Volkswagen Vento’s diesel variant. However, the Skoda is not going to leave the other Volkswagen cars unhappy. The three spoke power steering in new car is in the likes of the Volkswagen Fabia and Volkswagen Laura.

Skoda India is apparently mulling to export Skoda Rapid to overseas markets including China, Russia and Europe with the design similar to the Skoda’s MissionL concept car unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show. Which means, Skoda will be introducing two similar-looking cars globally within the same price range.
