Besides Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan, the French automaker is also eying other markets as well.

With close to 98 percent localisation, Renault launched the Kwid at an astonishing price tag of Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in September last year. The Kwid interior design and features created so much anticipation in the market that the vehicle became an overnight success for Renault.

Now, after almost a year serving the Indian customer, Renault plans to export the Kwid to neighbouring countries -- Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. The exports will start within a month. These markets have similar conditions as ours and all four are right-hand-drive (RHD) ones. Moreover, the French automaker is also mulling to export the entry level vehicle to other countries such as Latin America, South Africa, Indonesia, Russia, Iran and Morocco in near future.

Speaking of Brazil, Renault announced that the Kwid will be assembled in Brazil at the Ayrton Senna industrial complex in Sao José dos Pinhais (state of Parana). Probably the CKD kits will be exported from India to Brazil and in the latter, the Kwid will get four airbags along with ABS (anti-lock braking system).

Meanwhile, the Kwid was crash tested by the non-profit organisation -- Global NCAP, and it has received zero rating out of five, similar to the rest of the five cars which were also tested. There were three version of the Kwid including the optional top-end variant, which comes equipped with driver’s airbags. Head over to read in-depth about the crash tests
