Honda's 1.6 L iDTEC engine unveiled at Expo

We have seen plethora of new car launches and good share of products unveiled by various car manufacturers at the Indian Auto Expo. And Honda Motors was determined to play an important role at the 11th Auto Expo. Against many odds, the Japanese car manufacturer did manage to bring their recent breakthrough with the diesel engine technology at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012.

It is with their 1.6 L iDTEC diesel engine lies their pride to mark the beginning of their foray into developing diesel powertrains for their car line-up. It’s not a secret that Honda Motors never believed in the diesel engine technology until now. But, the growing demand for the diesel driven cars has not escaped the Honda Motors observation either. So, the auto major thought it is high time to change their ways and adapt to the situation.



Honda India hopes to have the new 1.6 L diesel powertrain work under the hood of the Honda Civic sedan to be followed by the rest of the line-up. Honda India, apart from the diesel engine brought the recently launched new Honda City to the Auto Expo along with the Honda Brio hatchback launched in September. Honda Motors has survived an extreme downturn in fate due to its flood affected Thailand unit, but the diesel engine could be just what the Honda Motors needs at the moment to make a smashing comeback.
