Applications for The Skoda Prize Starting From June 30th
The Skoda Prize, launched in 2009 by Skoda India is considered to be one of the most prominent platforms in the field of Indian contemporary art. The enrollment window for the same would be from June 30th till August 31st 2012; the applications can be made on the website – www.theskodaprize.com. The eligibility criteria for the participants include age of less than 45 years, solo show in India in the last one year; the participants should have demonstrated sustained vision, innovation and understanding of material and form in their careers. A diverse pool of nominees comes together at the Skoda Prize, from across the country including some internationally talented individuals. The winner of the contest wins not only the title of ‘The Skoda Prize Winner’ but also a sum of Rs. 10,00,000. The Runners-up are not left unhappy as they get invitations for participation in international residencies which are supported by the Swiss Arts Council, Prohelvetia.

The Skoda Prize jury panel is headed by famous personalities and is supported by renowned cultural institutions and museums. This contest is a unique way to work with exciting developments in the contemporary Indian art. Last year, based on the debut solo exhibitions, the Breakthrough Artist Award was conferred upon the artist less than 35 years of age to laud them at the starting of their careers. This award is supported by ART India which is a famous publication with a history of more than a decade. The collaboration of ART India and Skoda Prize works toward the development on critical dialogue and write ups on the Indian contemporary art. In the words of Art Critic, Curator and Director of Art for the Skoda Prize, Mr. Girish Shahane, the main aim is to build on the reputation and the award has already emerged as a benchmark for artistic quality and through Breakthrough Artist Award has attracted new voices.
