MG Gloster: Unbeatable Performance, Unmatchable Luxury
MG Gloster boasts the DNA of a hard-core off-roader wrapped in a sophisticated luxury package.
It’s hard to strike a balance in life. Whether you are in politics, don a corporate hat, or perform comedy, we often tilt from one extreme to the other. Even in the SUV market, you can identify this with some manufacturers focusing only on off-road capabilities while others prioritizing luxury above anything else. As a result, customers have to sacrifice on certain aspects as finding the best of both worlds seems like a far-fetched dream.
MG Gloster: Best of both Worlds
But not anymore, meet the new MG Gloster – a go-anywhere luxury SUV. The SUV that offers you the best off-road credentials wrapped in unmatchable, class-leading luxury features.
MG proudly displayed the Gloster at the 2020 Auto Expo and since then, the SUV has become the talk of the town. Butch stance, loads of ruggedness, and generous dimensions lend Gloster a very quintessential SUV look. Upfront, the Gloster is defined by a high-set bonnet, adaptive LED headlamps with LED DRLs, large multi-slated chrome grille, and a very dynamic chin housing vertically stacked fog lamp.
In the profile, the silhouette gets massive 19-inch diamond-cut alloys which not only look great but also help the SUV to achieve commendable high-speed performance. The rear of the Gloster will spellbind you with its wrap-around LED tail lamps and dual-barrel twin chrome exhaust system. The finishing on the roof rails and side stepper up the luxury quotient while the subtle yet significant touches like chrome handles and outside mirror with logo projection gives it a real wow factor.
In terms of dimensions, MG Gloster stretches 4985mm from head to toe while standing 1867mm tall on the ground. Its 1926mm wide cabin packs a substantial punch with a wheelbase stretching to a generous 2950mm.
On the important aspect of ground clearance, MG Gloster comes off with flying colours. Its belly is 210mm off the ground which means you can literally take it out anywhere without any apprehension whatsoever. For an uncompromising off-road performance, MG Gloster comes equipped with an exhaustive list of features and equipment. There is an on-demand four-wheel-drive system with BorgWarner’s transfer case rear differential. The SUV features an adaptive cruise control system to keep a safe following distance while keeping the speed within limits. Besides, you get a forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane change warning, and driver fatigue reminder system.
On the front of stopping power, a very reassuring feature on Gloster is disc brakes on all four wheels. This coupled with ABS, EBD, and BA provides superior and effective braking abilities to the SUV. For smooth drives on hilly terrains, MG has equipped Gloster with hill start assist, hill descent control, and role movement intervention system. Further, to ensure that the SUV continues to maintain its balance under constantly changing load and weight conditions, Gloster is supported by an electronic stability program (ESP) and traction control system (TCS).
Safety and Security
For complete safety of occupants. MG Gloster features dual front, side, and full-length curtain airbags. The driver is assisted with a very innovative auto-park assist which takes convenience on a different level altogether. The system uses the sensors and camera to detect a parking space and then steer the SUV automatically into the spot without any manual input. In addition, a 360-degree rear camera, blind-spot detection, and both front and rear parking sensors make sure that driving and parking in tight spots no longer remain an uphill task for you. Other safety features include speed warning alert, speed sensing auto door lock, a 3-point seat belt for all passengers, and Isofix child seat anchorage among others.
Engine and Transmission
MG Gloster comes powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that is available in two states of tune – (163PS/375Nm) 2.0L turbo and (218PS/480Nm) 2.0L twin-turbo. While the former is available in 2WD configuration, the latter is the de facto choice that you get in the all-terrain 4WD version. Both versions, however, use an 8-speed automatic transmission to channelize the power to wheels and for added convenience, the Gloster has got the feature of paddle shifters. The suspension of the SUV is specifically designed keeping in mind the stringent requirements of off-roading. This explains the use of dual-helix independent suspension and five-link integral suspension at the front and rear of Gloster respectively.
Luxury and Comfort
Step inside the MG Gloster and you will be surprised by the ultimate level of luxury this SUV has on offer. Unlike other off-road performers, Gloster cocoons occupants in a plush, upmarket, and luxurious cabin that this segment has never seen before.
A large panoramic sunroof amplifies the already spacious cabin while a 64-colour ambient lighting system will lift your spirits like nothing else. MG has taken its connected car technology to the next level with the i-Smart package – you can remotely control functions on Gloster, deliver voice commands, set various alerts, and check important parameters on the App.
A Full HD touchscreen infotainment system measuring 12.3-inch takes a pride of the place in the cabin. It has got both Apple and Android capabilities and lets you perform a variety of tasks in a completely hands-free manner. The 12-speaker system includes sub-woofer and amplifier and the sound emanating from it is a real treat for audiophiles.
The driver seat is 12-way electrically adjustable and features the memory and massage function. The passenger seat also gets electric adjust (8-way) besides featuring a heating function. The second row can be had either in the captain seat or bench seat arrangement while the third row features a bench with 60:40 split, flat fold, and recline configuration.
You get a 3-zone automatic climate control on MG Gloster and the HVAC system comes with an added feature of a PM 2.5 filter. Also, there are separate AC vents for the second and third row of passengers which is really well-suited for hot climes like ours. Some of the other significant features include an 8-inch instrument cluster, sound-absorbing windscreen, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs with heating function, and IRVM with auto-dimming function.
It’s rare to find an SUV which offers credible off-road capabilities with equal emphasis on luxury features. Luckily, we have got MG Gloster now which offers unbeatable off-road experience in a highly sophisticated luxury package. We are fully convinced that our long wait for a no-compromise package is over. Test Drive the new Gloster and we are sure, you will reckon with our opinion.
