Leaked: Engine Specs of Mercedes-Benz E Class Now Out!
Although the next-gen Mercedes E Class will be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show, in January 2016, the specifications of the engine line-up have already been leaked over the Internet.

The German car gets a family of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with different tunings. One four-cylinder diesel engine is expected to deliver maximum power output in the range of 148 bhp and 228 bhp while the other four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor, is likely to churn out 181-241 bhp depending on the variant. Apart from this, the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine used in the current model may continue its way forward with certain upgradation. Entry of a twin-turbo straight-six diesel engine is expected to power the new E Class.

The to-be-launched E Class will also get a six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine delivering a maximum power of 329 bhp and 362 bhp in the E400 and E450 AMG, respectively. The top AMG model of E Class will borrow the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from the AMG C63 and AMG GT. If that was less by any chance, a petrol and diesel hybrid model is also likely to be offered.
The engines will come mated either to a six-speed manual gearbox or a nine-speed automatic gearbox. If the speculations are to be believed , manual transmission is not expected to be offered with the petrol variants and power will be delivered either to two rear wheels or all the four wheels through Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes is also working on a long-wheelbase model of E Class which is also being contemplated for a launch in the Indian market.
