Ford EcoSport Compact SUV to be Priced Lesser than Renault Duster

The Indian compact SUV segment is growing at a great pace, the early success of Renault Duster and Mahindra Quanto have attracted other automakers as well to try their luck in the newly formed segment. Ford EcoSport is the other vehicle which has been appealing global markets, and is slated to launch in India as well in January 2013. So we are expecting the competition to go even more fierce when it launches in India.

The closest competitor of the vehicle will be Renault Duster, which has not just started the compact SUV segment in India, it has changed the dynamics of the Sports Utility Vehicle segment on the whole, in October and November, it managed to come in top 5 best selling SUVs in the country. CarDekho first brought you the launch plans of Ford EcoSport, then the official specifications and details of the car some days back, now our sources told us that the vehicle will be priced even lesser than the Duster, which is doing great because of the pricing it has. And what has made us trust on their speculations is the fact that the vehicle will be having as much local content as 80 per cent, since it will be sharing most of its parts with the company's flagship sedan, the Fiesta, which is assembled locally in India.

Moreover, the diesel engine to be used in the EcoSport too is manufactured in India, while there are speculations that the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine might as well be manufactured in India in months to come. One more reason which will help Ford EcoSport to be priced competitive is its sub 4-metre length, because of which the company will have the benefits in excise duty. Speaking about the car, Ford India's MD and CEO, Michael Boneham has already said, “EcoSport will be a value proposition as a sub-four metre car. Over 70 per cent of all cars sold in India are small cars sold in this segment. Apart from 1.0 litre petrol engine that performs like a 1.4, we will also have a global diesel engine fit in the car. Including automatic transmission, we will give customers all sort of options in different variants,”

While Renault Duster's entry level variant is priced at Rs. 7.49 lakh, we are expecting Ford EcoSport to be priced around Rs 6.5-7 lakh (ex-showroom).
