The first batch of Ford Mustangs has come to India. The arrival takes place after the American carmaker confirmed the introduction of the sixth-generation Mustang in India. After being driven across the globe for 51 years as a left-hand drive, the car is now receiving a right-hand drive set-up that was unveiled at the Indian Auto Expo 2016 in February.

Some of the up-to-date features include a 4.2-inch, multi-information display, Ford’s Sync 2 infotainment system, automatic wipers, adaptive cruise control and start/stop button. Apart from safety features like multiple airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), the Mustang also gets Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), which uses its radar to detect a vehicle at a blind spot whenever you are changing lanes and indicates it in the exterior mirror accordingly. “Throughout its long history, the Ford Mustang has been a symbol of optimism and confidence for people all over the world. It is a modern interpretation of the American icon, and we are thrilled to be giving our customers in India the opportunity to experience this piece of automotive history for the first time,” said Mr. Nigel Harris, president of Ford India, at the event where the Mustang’s entry in India was confirmed.

The car is propelled by a 5.0-litre Ti-VCT V8 engine which churns out 420bhp of power and 529Nm of torque. This smooth powerplant is coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with steering-mounted paddle shifters. The Mustang offers four drive modes – normal, snow/wet, sport and track – where you can adjust engine response and electronic stability control settings.

The cars have been brought as Completely Built Units (CBUs) with only four of them imported into India. The launch is likely to take place around June this year.
