Pre-owned car business in India getting organized

Pre-owned car business in India has remained an unorganised sector for a long time but now this segment is gradually getting organized with the entry of major auto manufacturers in the market. Only the coming few years will tell how soon the major car manufacturers start dominating this segment in India. Some leading auto majors in the pre-owned car business are GM's Chevrolet Ok, Mahindra First Choice, Maruti True Value. On the other hand, Tata Motors Assured, Honda Siel’s Auto Terrace and Toyota You Trust are the rising contenders in this market.

On the other hand, Tata Motors Assured, Honda Siel’s Auto Terrace and Toyota You Trust are the rising contenders in this market. This market does not only offer used cars for sale but it also gives people easy access to exchange offers and opt for new cars from these manufacturers. For example, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is planning to sell at least 20-30 percent of its new small car Etios through these Toyota You Trust outlets.

Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) at Toyota Kirloskar Motors told the media that it now has five outlets of Toyota You Trust. The company also plans to have 50 outlets within the next three years. TKM intends to sell 25% of its new cars through Toyota You Trust. The auto major already sells Innova and Altis through the used car exchange programme. The company is also expanding its used car outlet footprint, keeping in mind the launch of its compact car, Etios, next year.
