Hyundai Discontinues Accent, focus on new Compact Car
Hyundai Motor, India's second largest carmaker has now stopped production of its entry-level sedan, Accent, which lost the charm it had some years back. In fact, the company has removed the Accent from its official website as well, further indicating the discontinuation of the car. A report published in Livemint now claims that a company official has confirmed the same to them, without disclosing the details.
The Accent was launched about 13-14 years back and there was also a CRDi diesel powered version, which was discontinued in 2007. The reasons why the car could not lure buyers is the fact that Hyundai itself has i20, which being a potent premium hatchback brought the attention towards it.
Another official justified the move by connecting it with the company's plans of launching a new compact car which would sit between Hyundai i10 and i20 models, so the company's focus would be on new product. “We will be launching our small car both in petrol and diesel variants. The move to phase out Accent is taken in that direction,” he said.
And like we reported earlier, Hyundai's new compact car, codenamed BA, is basically the next-generation Hyundai i10, based entirely on a new global platform. However, the existing i10 too will be on sale. The next-generation Hyundai i10 will be a new global vehicle to be launched in several markets including our's. As per the word on the street, the new Hyundai i10 will also get a new name 'Brilliant'. Speculated to debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year, the new Hyundai i10 is likely to hit the Indian shores during the festive season.
