Fiat India Aims to Double its Market Share; 65 Dealerships by March 2013

Italian auto major, Fiat that currently has less than 1 percent of total market share in India now plans to double its sales numbers in India y selling over 25,000 units this year. And to make it possible, Fiat has already started working hard, they are planning to take its dealership number to 65 by March 2013, and there will be several new models launched in India including the iconic Jeep brand, known for world class SUVs.

The company that could only sell around 10,000 vehicles in the year 2012 due to its absence in various regions, so speaking about how he company plans to sell over 25,000 units in 2012, Fiat India's MD Enrico Atanasio said, "We did slightly more than 10,000 (in 2012), but it was a year of transition. In some regions, we are not present at all. We wish to have 1 per cent of the market which is seen to touch 2.6 million units this year. Our objective is to sell 25,000 units."

Quouting Fiat's market share in most places it has presence including Latin America (18%), Europe (around 10%) and North America (15%), Atanosio further said, "Can I be at 1 per cent? I would be the lowest in the world. You cannot be the lowest in a market which today is the seventh largest in terms of size worldwide."

He also spoke about a little about the new models that the company is planning to launch in India, there will luxury SUVs- Wrangler and Grand Cherokee from the stables of its iconic brand Jeep, also the premium hatchback Abarth will be here by the end of the year. While the Jeep brand will be imported fully, the Abarth hatchback will be locally manufactured at its Pune plant, Atanasio said. And like we reported you in our last story, the company will also launch two SUVs in the price range of Rs 8-10 lakh and 14-15 lakh respectively.
