All-new SKODA OCTAVIA
While the Octavia continues to enjoy cult status among enthusiasts, the new generation aims to appeal to the premium sedan buyers in India
Style and Design
For all Octavia fans, the wait is finally over. The all-new Skoda Octavia has made it to Indian shores in the Style and top-end L&K trim. The new generation looks crisp, posh, and so very luxurious. Up front, the focal point of attention is the new grille which now sits lower down and comes flanked by Bi-LED headlamps. Double-L shaped DRLs have their own charm and the chrome-surround LED fog lamps on the L&K are tastefully done.
Skinning on the flanks and fenders is tight and this, coupled with lots of cuts and creases, gives the all-new Octavia a chiselled appearance. The Style variant gets 43.18cm silver finish alloys whereas the top L&K trim comes equipped with similar size machine-cut alloy wheels. At the rear, crystalline elements in the tail lamps and prominent Skoda branding add to the overall visual appeal of the Octavia. All in all, Skoda has successfully struck a fine balance between sportiness and luxury with the all-new Octavia that is loved by enthusiasts and the corporate crowd alike.
The cabin quality, too, has taken a giant leap and the Octavia looks all set to challenge the entry-level German luxury cars in fit and finish. The doors close with a very reassuring thud and there’s a solid heft to the controls which feels absolutely great. The interiors are finished in black-beige upholstery and feel as if they belong to a car from a segment above. Seats come wrapped in suede leather and to make things more luxurious, Skoda has used both metal and chrome inserts inside the cabin.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel feels nice to hold and features knurled controls for distraction-free driving. The virtual cockpit system is fully customisable and offers a plethora of information to the driver. Further adding to the convenience is a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is crisp, responsive, and easy to read even under direct sunlight. The system is fully compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as wireless connectivity is available. The L&K variant features extra goodies, such as wireless charging, Style also has dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents, electrically adjustable front seats, and a 12-speaker 600-watt Canton audio system. Overall, the new Octavia’s cabin’s ambience is so luxurious it can easily give entry-level German cars a run for their money.
Space Age Inside
With an increase of 19mm in length and 15mm in width, the all-new Skoda Octavia offers plenty of space to occupants. The improvement is instantly recognisable the moment one steps inside the cabin. The front seats are plush and broad enough to accommodate larger frames in full comfort. They even feature lumbar support and memory function.
The comfort level for the back seat is top-notch if you prefer being chauffeur-driven. The bench features better contouring for lateral support and the recline angle is just spot-on. Even the third passenger won’t find any reason to complain. In fact, Octavia, with its latest generation, has strengthened its credentials of being a superbly comfortable chauffeur-driven car.
In terms of features, the all-new Skoda Octavia comes packed to the gills. In addition to eight safety airbags, the premium sedan features ABS with EBD, multi-collision brake, electronic differential lock, ESC, and ASR as a standard part of the equipment. Further, the safety equipment on the L&K trim consists of park assist, adaptive lights, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The all-new Octavia is now equipped with ‘MyŠKODA Connect’, an intelligent solution that provides a safe, convenient, and smart driving experience to stay connected with your car and your family. MyŠKODA Connect has in-built technology that helps one in case of an emergency with features such as Roadside Assistance and SOS. It also helps keep the car secure in the owner’s absence with features such as geofence and time fence.
MyŠKODA Connect also offers driving behaviour and trip analysis details, among other functions required for daily use. In other words, MyŠKODA Connect is the connectivity solution for your family and car safety in day-to-day life, specially developed for ŠKODA AUTO in India.
Engine and Transmission
Pulling the all-new Octavia forward is a 2.0 TSI turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 190PS and 320Nm of max torque. The refined motor comes mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The real change, however, is the shift-by-wire technology that has replaced the conventional gear level with a rocker switch in a minimalist design, integrated into the centre console on the new Octavia. Not only does it look absolutely stunning, but it also takes the convenience of shifting to a different level altogether.
A Sure Shot Winner
The all-new Octavia set a new standard for buyers looking for a do-it-all premium limousine. Be it design, interiors, space or quality, the new generation is decisively better than the outgoing version. Everything in the all-new Octavia feels like it’s from a segment-above car. In fact, we believe the new Octavia might just give entry-level German luxury cars something to be worried about.
