Hindustan Motors is an automobile manufacturer from India It is part of the Birla group of industries. The company was the largest car manufacturer in India before the rise of Maruti Udyog.It is the producer of the famous Ambassador car, widely used as a taxicab and as a government limousine. One of the original three car manufacturers in India, founded in 1942, it was a leader in car sales until the 1980s, when the industry was opened up from protection.Hindustan has a joint venture with Mitsubishi, producing versions of the Lancer and Pajero, but is best known for its own models.Hindustan Motors Limited (HML), India's pioneering automobile manufacturing company and Flagship Company of the C.K. Birla Group was established just before Indian independence, in 1942 by Mr. B.M. Birla of the industrious Birla family. Commencing operations in a small assembly plant in Port Okha near Gujarat, the manufacturing facilities later moved to Uttarpara, West Bengal in 1948, where it began the production of - the Ambassador.Undoubtedly one of the most iconic Indian car manufacturers, Hindustan Motors was founded in 1942 by the Birla industrial group, in partnership with British automotive firm - Morris Motors. The first product - the Hindustan 10, was launched in 1948. It was followed by the Hindustan Landmaster in 1954. But the biggest success came in 1957 with the launch of the Hindustan Ambassador, which went on to become the bestselling model in the country. Other prominent models sold by the company in India include the Contessa and the Deluxe. The company also had joint ventures with General Motors, Isuzu and Mitsubishi in India.The Hindustan Motors brand was on sale in India. It’s famous for its Hindustan Motors Ambassador, Hindustan Motors Contessa models. The manufacturer 4.31 Lakh. There is no official word from the manufacturer on its re-entry into the Indian market.

After the recent suspension of production at the Hindustan Motors' Uttatpara plant, the state government has now asked the Indian manufacturer to propose a detailed revival plan in the coming two days. "The management has been told to submit a revival package by June 19 and also how the company plans to clear the dues of workers," Labour Secretary Amol Roy Chowdhury told media after a tripartite meeting called by him.
