It has been a busy season for India's largest automobile manufacturer, MSIL as it has rolled out back to back vehicles. Now again, it has launched the modified version of its hatchback, Swift in the car bazaar. The automaker has retained all its variants among which, the Maruti Swift LXi is the entry level trim. It is equipped with a slightly tuned 1.2-litre K Series petrol engine that can now deliver a peak mileage of 20.4 Kmpl, which is quite impressive. There are changes to its front bumper and radiator grille, which gives it a fresh new look. At the same time, its interiors have also been modified with new fabric seating upholstery that adds to its plush appeal. This base variant is now available with adjustable rear headrests along with 60:40 split folding rear bench seat. It is being offered with several important features like a proficient air conditioning unit with heater, a responsive power steering, iCATS security system and several other such aspects. This vehicle is placed in the premium hatchback segment, where it is competing with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto Evo, Chevrolet Sail Hatchback, Volkswagen Polo and Nissan Micra as well.
The automaker has done some modifications to its exteriors, especially to its front facade, which gives it a refined look. Its radiator grille has been modified with black colored honeycomb mesh. It is surrounded by a vertical headlight cluster that is powered by halogen lamps and turn indicators. The front bumper has been modified with fluidic aerodynamic lines. Furthermore, its air dam is pronounced and it provides better air intake for engine cooling. The overall new look of this hatchback is complimented by the chrome plated Suzuki's logo embedded on to the grille. This entry level trim has body colored A and B pillars, while the door handles and the ORVM caps have been garnished in black. Its wheel arches are fitted with a set of trendy steel rims, which are covered with 165/80 R14 sized tubeless radial tyres. The rear profile profile too remains to be the same with a concave windscreen and V shaped boot lid. Its taillight also has a vertical design, which is equipped with powerful brake lights and turn indicators. This refurbished version is now available with three new paint options like Granite Grey, Fire Red and Mysterious Violet.
This Maruti Swift LXi trim has a spacious internal cabin, which is now done up with improved color scheme. At the same time, its seats are now covered with a new fabric upholstery, which adds to the elegance of interiors. Furthermore, its rear cabin is furnished with 60:40 split folding bench seat, which helps to increase the boot space. Its dashboard is quite large, which is equipped with aspects like a storage compartment and an air conditioner. It is also fitted with a trendy instrument cluster that houses several utility functions like speedometer, low fuel warning, odometer and digital clock. There is a lot of leg and shoulder space available inside the cabin as it is built with long wheelbase and width of 2430mm and 1695mm respectively. On the other hand, this trim is bestowed with necessary features like day and night inside rear view mirror, passenger's side vanity mirror, front door trim pockets, a large glove box, retractable cup holders, front seat back pockets, three assistant grips, room lamp and a ticket holder.
Engine and Performance:
This entry level variant is equipped with a 1.2-litre K series petrol engine that has a multipoint fuel injection technology. It has a total of 4-cylinders, 16-valves and is based on a DOHC valve configuration, which displaces 1197cc . The automaker has made some tweaks to this motor by reducing its power output to 83.1bhp at 6000rpm, but at the same time has improved the torque output to 115Nm at 4000rpm. This helps the engine to give away a maximum mileage of about 20.4 Kmpl on highways, while producing a minimum of 17 kmpl on city roads. This engine is skilfully paired with a five speed manual transmission gear box that sends the torque output to its front wheels.
Braking and Handling:
This variant is incorporated with an electric power assisted system based on a maintenance free rack and pinion mechanism, which supports a minimum turning radius of 4.8 meters. As far as its braking is concerned, its front wheels are paired with ventilated disc brakes, whereas the rear ones are fitted with conventional drum brakes . On the other hand, its front axle is mated with a McPherson Strut and torsion beam for the rear axle, which keeps the vehicle stable and well balanced.
The automaker is offering this Maruti Swift LXI trim with several standard comfort features, which provides a stress-free driving experience. Its dashboard has a powerful air conditioning unit with a heater, which helps to keep the ambiance pleasant. This trim also has features like a 12V power socket, rear seat back folding , remote operation for opening of fuel lid and back door, power steering with tilt adjustment, rear sporty antenna, and a lane change indicator. In addition to these, this trim also has utility features like multi-information display, digital trip meter, fuel consumption display and odometer.
Although it is the base trim, it is being offered with some crucial protective aspects, which ensures security to the vehicle and its passengers. The list includes rear doors child locks, front and rear head restraints, rear windscreen with high mounted stop lamp, dual horn, 3-point ELR seat belts for seats and side impact protection beams. It is also incorporated with an intelligent computerized anti theft system (iCATS) that safeguards the vehicle from unauthorized access. In addition to these, there are a few warning functions like driver seat belt reminder, door closure warning lamp, key-off reminder and head lights-off notification.
