After Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi, this time its the Swedish automaker, Volvo, which has recalled its vehicles over technical fault. The callback is happening over a software issue which leads to automatic switching off and on of the engine. The models affected are 60 and 70 series, made in 2016. In India, only S60 is for sale and as for now, is not affected by the recall.

Approximately 59,000 cars have been hit due to the recall. Out of these, 24,000 were sold in the home market, Sweden. The company has clarified that no accidents have been reported due to the fault. "We have no information that this has led to any accidents," Stefan Elfstrom, Volvo Car Group spokesman was quoted by Reuters.

Automakers have become particularly cautious about the safety features in their cars. Just two years back, a recall was considered extremely rare, but with the growing customer awareness, especially in European and North American countries, callbacks have now become more frequent. Recently Japanese company, Mitsubishi, made a recall due to a fault with the installation of the right-turn indicator switches in its vehicles. Another callback was issued by Toyota over rear seatbelts. While the former recall was limited to Japan, later affected automobiles worldwide; from US to China. The latest recall was done by Honda, which affected many of its models in India like City, Jazz and Civic. The call back was to fix the faulty airbags installed in the cars. Approximately, 60,000 vehicles, produced in between January 2012 and June 2013 were hit due to the same.
