The 50th edition of The Statesman Vintage and Classic Car rally will take place on the upcoming Sunday, that is, 28th of February 2016. This prestigious rally has been going strong for 50 years and celebrate this feat, classic car collectors from different parts of the country have come together.

The event began today morning and was open so that the participating contestants could register for the same.

The first edition of the rally took place way back in 1964 in Delhi and was later also held in Kolkata in 1968. It could be described as a festival, rather than any gathering of classic cars. The event includes, a drive through the city along with fancy dress showcase and live music. However, the rally didn’t take place for 2 alternate years, 1971 and ‘73 because of the war and fuel crises, respectively.

Flagging-off ceremony will take place on Barakhamba Road, off Connaught Place, New Delhi and will drive towards the next stop. The participating car will be assessed for their originality and performance on different sections of road. The convoy would be heading to the National Stadium, opposite to India Gate. The results will be announced and the 44 trophies would be handed over to the best cars around, in different categories.

This rally is held by The Statesman, which is a very renowned media house of the Nation and has been providing daily news for around 200 years. The Statesman garners great popularity in Kolkata, parts of Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Siliguri.
