Mahindra Scorpio facelift; what's in for you?
Mahindra Scorpio facelift was earlier expected at the 2014 Auto Expo in February, but it seems like the SUV will go on sales later this year around festive season. Mahindra Scorpio was launched in 2002 and since then there's no major alteration to the body but this time Scorpio is receiving major change inside-out. Even after the invasion of compact SUVs in a similar price bracket, Scorpio is pulling strong but lately Ford EcoSport has clearly out-shined its rivals including Scorpio.
Exteriors
A decade old design is getting a major overhaul. What we figured out from the heavily camouflaged spy shots, except the side profile, the SUV gets a fresh new face and tweaked rear. Speaking of the front profile, expect the conventional Mahindra slat grille, the SUV is getting a new headlight cluster and front bumper, the headlight might feature projector headlamps. The side profile is kept same but the test mule now rides on a new set of 5-spoke alloys but just like the XUV500 expect few other optional alloys. As per few spy shots, the Scorpio is getting LED tail lamps, a segment first feature. Apart from this, expect new color addition.
Interiors
The decade old design of the Scorpio interiors, though after quite a few refreshes looks dated compared to competitors. Spy pictures reveals that the dash is an entirely new unit. The angularly placed oval AC louvers of the ongoing version will be ditched for rectangular one while the new central console boast a large touch screen infotainment system. The instrumentation console features dual pot hexagonal design, while the steering wheel is a straight pick from XUV500.
Engine
The vehicle will carry forward the current 2.2 mHawk turbo diesel, but the engine will be slightly tweaked for improved refinements. The engine in the outgoing Scorpio gathers 120bhp 4,000 rpm of max power and peak torque of 290Nm in between the engine speed 1,800-2,800 rpm. The powerplant is mated to a five-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, we can expect a six-speed manual transmission borrowed from the XUV500.
Features
The current features will be retained, like, cruise control, Mahindra's Tyretronic, rain sensing vipers, auto headlights, micro-hybrid technology, voice assist system, etc. On the safety front, the car will continue to carry dual front airbags along with ABS and EDB. Apart from this, the facelifted SUV will boast several new added features.
