Hyundai Creta Dominates Compact SUV Segment In September 2020

The Creta actually crossed the 12,000 monthly sales mark while demand for the Seltos dropped by nearly 17 per cent

The compact SUV segment seems to be a stronghold for the Korean carmakers, especially Hyundai. The Creta recorded a month-on-month improvement to reach a sales figure of 12,325 and continues to top the segment sales. Meanwhile, the Kia Seltos’s demand dropped a bit as the monthly sales dropped to just 9079 units in September from 10,655 units in August. Hyundai Creta Gets New Base Petrol Variant. Other Variants Now Pricier By Up To Rs 62,000

  • The Hyundai Creta was by far the best-selling compact SUV in September 2020. Over 12,300 units were shipped which is a month-on-month increase of nearly 5 per cent.

  • The demand for the Seltos has dropped in September as compared to August. It was still the second highest selling model in the segment with 9079 units shipped, which was a month-of-month drop in sales of nearly 15 per cent.

  • Mahindra’s Scorpio was nowhere near as popular as the Korean compact SUVs but it was still the third best selling compact SUV in September 2020. It recorded a sale of 3527 units which was a month-on-month increase of 6 per cent.

  • The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross also saw its month-on-month demand drop by nearly 17 per cent. It is the only other compact crossover to record four-digit sales in September with just over 2000 units shipped.

  • The Renault Duster was the worst hit in September with sales dropping to just 133 units which was a month-on-month reduction of over 72 per cent.

  • Nissan was still at the bottom for the compact SUV monthly sales as only 58 units of the Kicks were shipped in September.

  • Overall, the compact SUV segment actually shrunk in September as compared to August by almost 6 per cent.
