BMW 2-Series Active Tourer revealed

And post its announcement over the adaptation of Front-Wheel Drive in 2009, BMW has finally unveiled its first product from the line-up, the new 2-Series Active Tourer.

Post its announcement over the adaptation of Front-Wheel Drive in 2009, BMW has finally unveiled its first product from the line-up, the new 2-Series Active Tourer.
With the introduction of latest 2-Series Active Tourer, German car manufacturer has expanded its front-wheel-drive and three cylinder engine product portfolio. Following on from the Coupe as the second member of the new BMW 2 Series range, according to the company, “the Active Tourer combines dynamism, style, elegance and practicality in one cleverly packaged car.” It is based on the BMW Group’s new UKL platform, which currently underpins MINI’s third-generation Cooper, and will also be used on the next-generation BMW X1. The car combines compact dimensions on the outside with a cabin capable of seating five adults in comfort and packing all of their gear, though it is just 4,342 millimeters long, 1,800 millimeters wide and 1,555 millimeters of height. Further down the track a larger seven-seat model tipped to be called the 2-Series Gran Tourer will be launched.
The engine line-up of the BMW's latest entrant, comprises of three and four-cylinder turbocharged mills. The top-of-the-line 225i trim is powered by a turbocharged 231 bhp-2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, mated to standard six-speed standard transmission, with an option of autobox too. Furthermore, BMW has also confirmed that an 'xDrive all-wheel-drive' variant will be offered later in the year, as well as a hybrid version is also under works.
This car will go on sale in Europe, soon after its Geneva debut. After its arrival, the FWD Bimmer will compete against the likes of the Ford B-Max, Fiat 500L, Mercedes-Benz B-Class and Volkswagen Touareg. Though, there aren't any official words out, in context to the Indian debut.
