Skoda Superb 2026 expert overview
Overview
A year and a half after being showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo, the Skoda Superb is finally on its way back to India in its latest version And to cater to its fans, Skoda is offering its premium sedan with a diesel engine.
With its premium cabin and upmarket feature list, the Superb will go up against other premium sedans like the Toyota Camry and is an alternative to luxury sedans such as the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the BMW 3 Series LWB.
Exterior
The Superb, like any other Skoda car, looks elegant and sophisticated!
Upfront, it has the signature Skoda Butterfly grille with vertical chrome slats and this grille also houses the ADAS radar and the front camera. Next to the grille are sharp LED headlamps with sleek LED DRL signatures. You also get air dams on each side, which then merge into the slim front bumper.
In profile, the first thing you notice is its massive 4.9 metre length. The silhouette remains simple as it should be for a sedan, and what grabs attention is the design of the 18-inch 16-spoke alloy wheels, which looks classy. There is no cladding under the doors or on the wheel arches, the ORVMs are finished in a dual-tone shade, and the chrome surrounds on the window line add some contrast.
Lastly, the rear stays clear of the connected lighting setup we see in modern cars. Instead, it gets split LED tail lamps with Y-shaped lighting elements, big “Skoda” lettering on the tailgate, and a very slim bumper.
Interior
Inside, the globally available tan brown and black cabin theme is present in the Indian version too. The cabin features a layered dashboard design which is finished in soft touch leatherette padding and textures plastics. Chrome inserts and ambient lighting add some additional contrast.
The cabin gets a 2-spoke steering wheel, similar to the ones we see in the Kodiaq. The touchscreen takes most of the attention, but the best part is the abundance of physical controls in the cabin, especially the rotating dials that can multi-task between climate control and other functions.
While the Superb does have a middle headrest at the back, the sedan is actually meant for four occupants, and earlier versions have proved themselves to be great chauffeur-driven vehicles. The rear passengers are expected to get a good amount of space, lots of storage opinions, and sunblinds for privacy.
Features
When it comes to features, it will come with a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This screen will be paired with a premium Canton sound system. Other features include a 10-inch digital driver’s display, a heads-up display, multi-zone climate control, and a wireless phone charger.
The Superb will also come with powered front seats with memory, heating, ventilation, and massage function. Sadly, the new version of the sedan does not get a sunroof, even in the international markets, so that feature will not be on the list
Safety
For passenger safety, you get 10 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, front and rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, and a 360-degree camera.
It is also equipped with Level-2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, high beam assist, and autonomous emergancy braking.
While it has not yet been crash tested in India, the Skoda Superb has been through Euro NCAP, where it received a 5-star crash test safety rating.
Ride and Handling
The India-spec Superb will come with just one engine option, a 2-litre diesel, and its details have been mentioned in the table below.
| Engine |
2-litre Diesel |
| Power |
150 PS |
| Torque |
360 Nm |
| Transmission |
7-speed DSG* |
| Drivetrain |
Front-wheel-drive (FWD) |
*DSG – Direct Shift Gearbox
Also, the Superb gets DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), which allows you to adjust its suspension stiffness based on the driving mode you select. This way it can remain cushioned and comfortable on bad roads, while being planted and agile on highways.
Verdict
The Skoda Superb has always been regarded as a premium sedan which is also fun to drive. The package it offers, on paper, can easily give a match against the likes of its German rivals, and what makes it stand out is the comeback of the 2-litre diesel engine, which has stayed away from any form of electrification.
Once the Superb is launched and we get to experience its package and performance, we’ll give you a much more detailed review of the Skoda sedan. So stay tuned.
