The Japanese automaker Suzuki Motors Corporation has announced that it will start the construction process of its Gujarat manufacturing plant on 28th of this month. The foundation for this Rs. 4,000 crore plant will be laid on the said date and the facility is expected to start functioning by 2017. The ceremony will be held at Hansalpur Village which is about a distance of 138km from Ahmedabad.

The Government of Gujarat allocated 700 acre of land to the firm following a State Support Agreement with Maruti Suzuki India LTD in June 2012. At first, the plant was proposed by MSIL but it will now be wholly owned entity of Suzuki Motors Corporation. The facility is the first outside Haryana and cars like Celerio and next-gen Wagon R are expected to be rolled out from this plant.

The honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat Mrs. Anandi Patel and Finance Minister of the state, Mr. Sourabh Patel and Japanese Ambassador to India Mr. Takeshi Yagi are expected to attend the foundation laying ceremony.
