Skoda customers gets compensation of Rs 40,000

A consumer court has given orders to an automobile company and its dealer to pay Rs 40,000 as compensation to a customer. The court directed the company to compensate to the customer who went through physical and mental harassment in visiting the agency again and again for the rectification of his new brand car which had some noise and vibration problems.

A cost of Rs 5,000 was also imposed on both Skoda Auto India Private Limited and Sai Automobiles by the East Delhi District Consumer Disputes Forum. The Forum has also ordered both of them to rectify the problem without any cost. The Forum completely agrees with the customer’s problem of visiting the agency several times for getting rectified, the problems in his new car. The Forum said that the vehicle started creating problems from the very first day of purchase but that was not all as the customer was harassed for the rectification of problems in his vehicle and he had to visit the agency again and again. The Forum also said that the customers deserves a compensation for all the physical and mental torture that he went through during that episode.

The Forum comprised of U C Tiwari as President and other members which included M Saxena and T Vijayan. The petition was filed by Hitendra K Nahata who sought a compensation of Rs one lakh from the company for handing over a defective Skoda Fabia. The buyer also said that there was a constant problem of noise and vibration in the engine of the vehicle and though the company tried to solve that problem but it was unsuccessful to do so.

The Forum also told that though the customer could not prove any manufacturing defect in the vehicle but he was granted compensation for all the financial loss and  harassment that he had undergone in getting his new car repaired.
