We have excerpted data* from the CarDekho Used Car division with details taken into account from April to September 2016. Based up on the analysis of 1.25 lakh car listings and more than 31 lakh consumer visits on these links, we have compiled a list of top 10 used cars which people are searching online and it also gives us a snippet of the overall used car buying trend in the country as we are the No. 1 automotive website in India. 10) BMW 3 Series
Surprise! Nobody would have thought that a BMW will ever make its way into the ‘top 10 most preferred used cars’ in India, but yes, it has and it’s none other than the 3 Series. The BMW 3 Series, which is the largest selling car from the German automaker globally, is equally loved in the second-hand market. The conversion rate of the viewer into a buyer was, however, close to 5 percent but what was interesting to see is that people did search in good numbers for a model in this price range.

9) Hyundai Verna
The second last spot belongs to the Hyundai Verna. Once its second generation model came, the Korean sedan was all over the country, and the then surging demands of diesel powered cars also fuelled its sales. Just like its popularity in the new car market, the Verna seems to be a safe bet even in its second innings.

8) Toyota Innova
Undoubtedly, if there’s one car that you can bet on with respect to aftersales value, it’s indeed the Toyota Innova. Its worth in the second hand market can be gauged by the fact that a 2006-07 model still calls for a good Rs 5-6 lakhs. Reliability, durability, comfort and performance have been the solid pillars of the Innova badge, which makes it a clear winner in both the used and new car market.

7) Hyundai i20
The older generation i20 and the new Elite i20 are both loved in the second hand market courtesy their elegant styling, comfort and features on offer. The availability of service stations and spare parts also makes the ownership experience hassle-free. The premium hatch’s conversion rate too is very good and stands at around 18 per cent.

6) Mahindra Scorpio
The homegrown automaker’s utility vehicles are adored even in their second ‘afresh’ start. People are crazy about the Scorpio emblem and with the new Scorpio shedding the rear-mounted spare wheel and trademark Scorpio styling, the value of the older generation models has shot up. The major chunk of its sales come from buyers looking for sturdy vehicles for their off-road rides. Certainly, this scorpion has stung deep in the preowned territory.

5) Maruti Swift Dzire
If you are looking for a sedan which should have decent boot-size, compact dimensions, is fuel efficient, low on maintenance and has easy availability of parts, which one would you go for? Yes, the obvious choice for such preferences would be the Swift Dzire. The sub 4-metre sedan has been selling like hot cakes in the new market and same is the case in the used car segment. The conversion rate of the viewers into buyers is good at 21 per cent.

4) Hyundai i10
After the Santro stint, Hyundai has developed incredible trust among Indians and the same can be seen in its popularity in used car market. The most sought-after car from the South Korean automaker in the preowned segment is the i10. The value for money quotient is definitely there, as one gets features, looks, comfort and fuel efficiency while opting for the Hyundai hatch. Moreover, it has the second best conversion rate, with close to 22 per cent of the users buying it.

3) Maruti Suzuki WagonR
Often side-lined by its elder and younger cousins, the Alto and the Swift, the WagonR has been a bankable player in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. The spacious hatch was, and still is, one of the most loved hatchbacks ever made. Its tallboy design and sheer practicality makes it a favourite in the second hand market too. It has the highest conversion rate with respect to users aggregating more than 23 per cent.

2) Honda City
The Honda City has long held the title of the perfect sedan in the mid-size category prior to the inflow of sub 4-metre ones, which ate up quite a lot of market share of sedans above Rs 6.5 lakh. However, the used car segment analysis reveal that it is still one of the most preferred sedans in the second hand market. The conversion ratio for the City was good at 14 per cent.

1) Maruti Swift
Sitting at the pinnacle of the most preferred used cars is the Maruti Swift, which nails its competitors quite convincingly. Despite being tagged at a premium, the Maruti hatch has been garnering 15k plus sales every month in the new car division. In the second hand market too, the Swift has registered itself as a hot seller. The conversion rate of the hatch was great with more than 18 per cent buyers opting for it.
