French auto major Peugeot is the second largest carmaker in Europe, Peugeot is a part of PSA Peugeot Citroen. The company manufactured the first vehicle under its brand in the year 1891. Peugeot has a huge manufacturing facility and Peugeot Museum in Sochaux, the place where the company originated.
The Peugeot family originally belongs to Valentigney, Montbeliard, Franche-Comte, France. Peugeot forayed into the production business back in the 18th century. Peugeot initially manufactured bicycles and in 1890 the company stepped into manufacturing cars. Peugeot became a pioneer by fitting rubber tires in petrol cars. In 1896, Peugeot started building its own engines and was no longer dependent on Daimler for the engines. In 1896, Armand Peugeot formulated his own company Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot and opened a new plant at Audincourt, dedicated only for the manufacturing of cars. Peugeot built another facility in 1907 based in Sochaux which turned out to be an essential plant by 1928.
