Mahindra is expected to launch yet another sub-4m SUV, codenamed the Mahindra S201, by the end of 2018.
Since the cabin appears to be identical to the SsangYong Tivoli, which wasn’t designed as a sub-compact SUV, the S201 could be among the more spacious offerings in the sub-4m SUV space
Being a monocoque SUV, the Mahindra S201 should offer better handling dynamics and fuel efficiency compared to Mahindra’s existing sub-4m SUVs – the TUV300 and NuvoSport
Interiors seem to be a straight lift from the Tivoli, which has been on sale in Europe since 2015, so the cabin might look a bit dated upon launch
With Mahindra’s existing sub-4m offerings, the TUV300 and the NuvoSport, not being able to make any mark in the segment, it is certainly late to the party now
Stand Out Features
Expected to get XUV500-borrowed 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto support
With all-four disc brakes, the S201 could be among the handful of cars in the sub-Rs 10 lakh price bracket that offer all-around disc brakes
Like the Tivoli, the S201 is likely to get dual-zone climate control, which will be a segment-first feature
Despite its existing sub-4m SUVs not being so successful, Mahindra would be betting big on the upcoming S201 in the ever-growing sub-compact SUV space. It is ruled by the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza currently, followed by the popular and extremely competitive Ford EcoSport and the economically priced Tata Nexon.
" If you factor in the expected packaging of the SsangYong Tivoli-based offering, the S201 does appear to be a promising product"
