Petrol heads from across the country got up close and personal with Red Bull Racing Can at the amphitheater at Carter Road in Mumbai on Saturday. Unlike the qualifiers the venue for the national finals wasn’t any regular circuit but Carter Road, the playground of street racing in Mumbai.

Just how Street Racing cars do not only have to be fast but also the sweetest in styling and designing, similarly in Red Bull Racing Cans the finalists had to make not only the quickest but also the sweetest can.

The challenge was not only to be the first to cross the finish line but the racing cans with cool designs and steady machines also earned points. Participants used Red Bull cans powered by radio-controlled motors to bring out the best in engineering and designing to build the country’s best can on wheels.

Team India’s, Ankush Yeturu and Sarath Uday, from Anna University Chennai stood out to be the best team from India. Team India will go on to represent India in the global finals on November 25, 2012 in Brazil to compete against 24 other countries. Rounding off the top podium positions were Race Dynamics’, Bhairav Kuttiah and Binoy John from Presidency College in Bengaluru and Flying Pistons’, Rhett Rego and Daniel Dsouza from St Andrews in Mumbai.

Motorsports enthusiasts were given the opportunity to show-off their talent as they displayed some of the most innovatively kitted cars to fellow petrol-heads. In the weeks before the city finals and national finals, the participants worked on their machines demonstrating F1 style precision and tuning the tiny engines to speed demons.

While many racing fans have seen aerodynamics play a big role in the RB8 on the track, the Red Bull cans gave the designers a competitive advantage as they styled their Racing Can’s body to gain an aerodynamic edge making this a thrilling competition all the way to the chequered flag.

Their racing feat and designing capabilities were judged by Joyneel Mukherje Senior Editor at CNBC Awaaz and the owner of India’s only professional RC track Siddharth Salian, a remote control car aficionado. While the teams were sweating it out on the set course, hundreds of residents and enthusiasts, gathered around to cheer their favorites. These foot-long racing cans offered the crowd a rush of adrenaline, fiery speed and an excuse to come together to watch a friendly competition.
