As number of joint ventures rising and foreign companies manufacturing and assembling luxury cars in India, the imported car sells dipping due to people buying locally assembled cars. The main reason behind this fall is manufacturing those cars in India which were not available in India before.

Interestingly at the same time when imported car sells dipping the sell of luxury car sells rising even by grater margin. According to estimates imports dipped by more then 14% in the year 2008 which is 4951 units. On the other hand the luxury car sells grown from 500 to 7500 in last two years.

The main contributors to this decline are BMW and Audi. Both of the companies have started assembling their models in India.

According to some market analysts the main reason behind this fall in imported car is the shift in the consumer preferences towards locally assembled luxury models. Many foreign players are planning to launch their luxury models in India. BMW, Mercedes and Porsche all three are planning to roll out their new luxury models in India. BMW is launching SUV X6 while Porsche is planning to launch Boxster and Cayenne in luxury car segment.
