After confirming the debut of McLaren’s new Sports Series at next month’s New York Auto Show, a new report on the web states that the first offering under this umbrella will be a mid-level performer ‘570S.’ Following the British manufacturer’s current nomenclature, the 570S would pack 570ps of maximum power. Such power rating is comparable with outputs of key rivals such as Ferrari California T with 552ps and the 560ps Porsche 911 Turbo S.

If McLaren continues its earlier trend then the Sports Series will mimic the Super Series with an entry-level offering, a mid-level performer and a pure performance model. Also, there will be convertible versions of some of the Sports Series members as well.

Initially, the 570S is expected to debut in the coupe form, with a Spider convertible due shortly after that. While a more practical variant and softer variant is also expected post the above mentioned two. This model will be suitable for grand touring and above it will sit a ‘LT’ variant designed for the track as well as viable for streets.

The basis of the Sports Series will also be identical with carbon fiber monocoque chassis used in other McLarens. In terms of powerplant, its again will most likely be borrowed from the siblings as well and familiar Ricardo-built 3.8-liter V-8 engine and Graziano-sourced seven-speed SSG dual-clutch transmission will make its way to the latest 570S.

Complete details of the McLaren 570S will be out at the beginning of April when will premiere at the New York Auto Show. Stay to the space!
