Another lightweight masterpiece: Lotus Exige S Club Racer

Lotus’s already very agile Exige S goes under the scalpel and comes in the form of a 15 kilogram lighter Exige S Club Racer. Exige S had a lightweight aluminium chassis-tub and aerodynamically enhanced composite bodywork which has been further lightened by new lightweight battery, lightweight centre console in body colour, lighter doors and lightweight sports seats in leather or Alcantara with colour optimised stitching. More tweaks to the 3.5 litre supercharged V6 engine means the 0-100kmph dash is now 4.0 seconds with the acceleration ending at 274kmph top end.

The software of the traction system has been updated under ‘Drive‘, ‘Sport’ and ‘Race’ modes that allows more driver control before any electronic intervention is required. The systems can be modified via a driver-selectable switch fitted as standard and both ‘Sport’ and ‘Race’ modes increase throttle response. Jean-Marc Gales, CEO, Group Lotus plc states, “Factoring the Club Racer ethos into the Exige enhances the track-focussed potential of this important model. It encompasses our legendary benchmark in handling, with lightweight and efficient construction and that we will always put a peerless and pure driving experience first”.

Only as a coupe body style, the Exige S Club Racer generates 42 kilograms of aerodynamic down-force at 160kmph, owing it to its front splitter, rear wing and flat underside, all in the pursuit for maximum performance and handling balance. The pricing for this pocket rocket is near Rs 52.7lakh (excluding customs and duties) and is available for order now.

Recognised as a bit left field thinker, he states that all iconic vehicles on the planet, apart from their engines and designs, had a soulful character contributing to their greatness. Having driven cars from Lamborghinis to Nanos to even tractors, Abhijeet believes all vehicles have a character that forms an integral part of our lives, &lsquo;imagine where mankind could have reached without cars&rsquo;. Being a critic, his knowledge and skill extend both on four-wheels and two-wheels. Art experts around the globe argue that cars can never be art, but Abhijeet begs to differ. Also an avid photographer, he mentions that through the lens of an artist, cars are one of the most beautiful subjects. Both an engineer and MBA, he holds a keen eye for the product as well as corporate proficiency of the automobile industry.</p>Read more
