Vitara Brezza 2016-2020 ZDi Review
Overall:
Maruti had wooed audiences a month back with news about this upcoming model. It had garnered much of the spotlight in the Auto Expo in Delhi, setting up the stage for its release. The much awaited model is now on the roads, and we thought that there was much to be delved into. The model evokes a whole new niche within the compact SUV segment. At first sight, anybody would sense a unique flavour design, from the trendy outside to the ergonomic inside. Nevertheless, a person planning to buy the vehicle faces both gains and losses, and we're going to dig in to see what those are.
Pros:
1. The outer design is attractive.
2. Presence of ABS and EBD is a plus-point.
Cons:
1. The engine performance may disappoint people.
2. Its handling could use improvement.
Stand-Out Features:
1. This variant comes with a SmartPlay Infotainment system, which grants a fine entertainment experience for the occupants.
Overall:
Maruti promises a game-changer with this new model, which has been rustling the web for some time now. Among the variants, the ZDI Plus is the top end trim. It has been graced with a great range of features, entertainment facilities and cosmetics. On the outside, the car makes a good look with its body coloured bumper, dual tone exteriors and skid plate garnish. Meanwhile, on the inside, a wide range of features make the ride comfortable and pleasant, from navigation to voice control, and even Bluetooth connectivity. Meanwhile, power windows, armrests, cup holders, a charging socket, a glove box, and central locking system keep the ride convenient and free for the passengers. The vehicle is powered by a 1.2-litre diesel engine that displaces 1248cc.
Exteriors:
The car carries an imprint of the design sculpture seen in many other models of the day. However, we appreciate the originality in the look, from the sharp layout of the front and the dual tone exterior colour dressing. The grille at the focus of the front has a chrome outline, with the company's emblem posted at the centre. At the bottom, the wide air intake section and the fog lamps at the corner of the skirt bring a more complete picture. The hood draws a more masculine tone over the front, and the gentle creases running over it add to the look. By the side, you're sure to take notice of the well designed alloy wheels and the large tyres. Black cladding flows over the wheel arches and the bottom of the sides. The black highlights on the window frames brought a unique touch to the look. At the rear, a chrome strip is furbished at the centre of the tail, while the neat cladding at the bottom gives a bolder tone to the entire set-up.
Interiors:
The all black interiors bring a more energetic environment within. We thought that the legspace at the front could have been improved slightly, but the rest of our team at the second row had little to fret about. Headroom and shoulder room is also sufficient, so that most adults should have no problems enjoying the ride. At the front, the dashbaord has a simple design, nothing out of the world. The corners the AC vents, while the centre console comes with a small display screen that houses the SmartPlay Infotainment system. Aside from being sporty in design, the steering wheel feels just right to hold, and buttons by the corner lighten the load for the driver. In front, the instrument cluster houses a tachometer and a speedometer, blanketed within a cowl for a more catchy look. Brushed aluminium appliqués on the doorsides elevate the inner ambience, along with the fine fabric that dresses the seats.
Performance:
Packed within the machine is a DDiS 200 engine that displaces 1248cc. It has 4-cylinders incorporated together through the double overhead camshaft arrangement. For its segment, the car has reasonable specs, including 200m of torque at 1750rpm, and 90bhp of power at 4000rpm. It boasts an exceeding fuel efficiency of 24.3kmpl. The engine makes for a sound city drive, with a good sprinting capacity and linear power delivery. Mild vibrations and noise do disrupt the cabin. Integrated with the engine is a 5-speed manual gearbox, which makes shifting smooth and easy.
Ride and Handling:
Ventilated discs and drum units together cement the braking arrangement. Meanwhile, the front arm of the chassis is rigged with a McPherson strut, while the rear gets a torsion beam. Coil springs have been compounded on both arms, ensuring that the ride is kept smooth and easy. The ride easily takes in everything with grace, although some of the rougher portions do ruffle up the cabin. The steering is made easier with a receptive response. There is a mild body roll, but it wouldn't alarm passengers.
Safety:
There are a broad array of features that bring a secure and peaceful ride for the occupants. For this variant, the ABS and EBD systems ensure that control is kept solid throughout. Aside from this, there are airbags for the front occupants, seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, projector headlamps, fog lamps, reverse parking sensors, and a demister. An immobiliser keeps the vehicle secure as well, apart from just the occupants.
Verdict:
The new car makes a solid statement with its overall design, from the outer design to the inner comfort. It would appeal to all ages, but younger car lovers in particular would appreciate it. This variant has much to boast about, from the Infotainment system to the presence of strong safety aids. On the downside, the down-to-earth character of the cabin, and the lack of personalisation schemes might put some people off. At the end of the day, this is your type of model if you're looking for a trendy looking vehicle that can get you from A to B. On the other hand, if you prefer exhaustive comfort and luxury along with this, then another model would suit you best.
