Enzo Ferrari opted to get a black horse on his cars with a bright canary yellow background as yellow is the color of his birthplace Modena. Red was the color of Italian race cars therefore since the 1920s Ferrari cars were painted in red. The color depicted the nationality of the competing teams instead of the driver or the manufacturer.
