Nissan Terrano Expert Review

Introduction

The Nissan Terrano is, at its essence, a Renault Duster in a more premium package. While it gets the same robust build and abuse-friendly nature of the Duster, it features a more mature design and better interiors too. Should you consider it over its more affordable sibling and indeed, it’s rivals?

2016 Nissan Terrano

Pros
  • 205mm of ground clearance. More than enough for Indian roads.
  • Six-speed AMT gearbox is well-tuned. Great to use in the city and on the highway.
  • Duster’s ride quality and tough nature in a more stylish package.
  • Diesel engine offers great driveability and efficiency.
Cons
  • Cannot match the finish quality or features of its rival, the Hyundai Creta.
  • No all-wheel drive option even though its more affordable cousin gets it.
  • Interior quality, while better than the Duster, is only acceptable for the price.

Stand Out Features

  • Six-speed manual transmission with 110PS diesel engine for improved highway cruise-ability and efficiency.

CarDekho Verdict

The Nissan Terrano is a good alternative for someone who wants the Duster’s core qualities, but without drawbacks like the Renault’s poor interior quality. It’s also a good SUV to drive and has a practical cabin, including a big boot.

"However, at its price, it feels under-equipped and the higher-variants are priced dangerously close to the XUV500, which is not only well-equipped, but can seat two more occupants as well."

It is an upgrade to the Duster, but that’s its only real selling point.
