Both the cars are comfortable enough, if we talk about BMW 6 Series GT 630d M Sport, while pulling away in the default ‘comfort’ mode, you immediately notice that the firm ride normally associated with the brand is missing. It still well set up though, and absorbs mostly everything that city roads could throw at it, only feeling a little rumbly over just small imperfections. In Comfort Plus, this plushness is taken to another level. It’s super absorptive and just bordering on floaty. Big bumps are evened out in a nonplussed manner, but the cabin does take a little while to settle down, so it’s best to use this mode in the city. Out on the highway, you will be happier in Comfort. Even switching to Sport only adds a tiny dash of firmness to the ride and there’s still a lot of give in those adaptive dampers to keep high-speed cruising comfortable. There is also a welcomed focus on rear passenger comfort. When compared to the 5 Series, there’s quite a bit more room on offer. Taller passengers will be much happier here with the extra room (head, leg and shoulder room measurements are all higher than the 5 Series) and larger seats. On the other hand, the NVH is remarkable and even for the diesel engine, the car is quiet and barely shakes as the engine comes to life and powers the car into motion. What is remarkable is that despite all the additions to make the X5 more sporty, the car has a very nice ride quality in comfort mode and despite the large low profile tires that look good on it, the car should ride well even on Indian roads. This, of course, is the contribution of not only air-suspension all around but also the way it is set-up and tuned. The steering is adaptive and it seems that BMW has mastered the art of using electrics on steering columns while handling is also superb, given that there are a number of systems that not only keep the car stable but also aid in making it feel like a sports car. The new X5 will certainly lift the experience for buyers, yes even those at the back, where you can get optional touchscreens for rear entertainment and also plug in your phones to charge. The focus on infotainment is quite obvious though. This car is a lot more comfortable than the last one. You may also compare both the cars according to their offerings accordngly.
