Audi Q1 spied for the first time
The all-new Audi Q1 has been spied for the first time in Europe while undergoing the test runs.
July 22, 2015: The all-new Audi Q1 has been spied for the first time in Europe while undergoing the test runs. Despite of wearing extensive camouflage, the test mule shows the Q1 will not simply be a high-riding version of the internationally available A1. Instead it would follow the trend set by the Q3 and draws inspiration from the elder siblings in the Q line-up. The front seems like a smaller interpretation of the Q7 with similar bumper design, and high shoulder line- typical of the latest Audis. The headlights though look way angular and aggressive than any current model. As of now there’s hardly anything official out about the Q1, but the model will be built in Ingolstadt and is expected to break covers in Geneva Motor Show next year.

It is under development based on the Volkswagen Group PQ24 platform. This is the same platform on which the Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia cars are built.
Audi Q1 has been a dream project of German car manufacturer and was announced long ago. Audi Q1 will be part of the strategy that Audi adopted to be at the number one by 2015. Audi targets to sell 1.5 million cars by 2015.
Audi Q series started in 2005 when the German automaker introduced the bigger SUV Audi Q7 followed by 2008 when they brought in the compact SUV Audi Q5. The Audi Q3, third in the series is expected to join in early 2012. The name of the Audi Q1 itself suggests that it will be the entry level mini SUV in the Q series. It is also expected that Audi could drop the ‘Q’ from Q1 in US as per its agreement.
The mini SUV by Audi is also quite similar to it the Audi A1 city car that is claimed to have very good response in Audi’s history. The new Audi Q1 is expected to have a variety of power trains under the hood. As per initial information, Audi Q1 will be available in both diesel and petrol versions. The Audi Q1 petrol is expected to be powered by 1.4L TFSI engine. The engine is capable of producing 125hp and will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The new Audi Q1 though smaller in size will be taking a great deal from its seniors - Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 besides inheriting from Audi Q3. In all, the new Audi Q1 will be a compact sporty car with the compactness of a city car and the agility and sturdiness of an SUV. Overall, the exteriors of Audi Q1 look like a squeezed Audi Q5. The front of the Q1 seems to be a dubbed version of Audi Q5 however preserving the proportions. It also carries the same sporty and elegant look as that of Q5 and Q7. The front has a prominent grille with the Audi logo seated at the centre. The chrome lining on the grille further enhances the front appeal of the car. Multi barrel Xenon headlamps with day time running LEDs are expected to garnish the front of the new Audi SUV. Besides, it will have its own bumper shape different from its biggies. The sides throw an image more like a big hatchback than a mini SUV. The typical Audi styling of Q5 pervades in Q1 as well. The rear too is similar to the big siblings.
The Q1 interiors are another example of comfort with a characteristic aesthetic appeal. Step inside will none less than awe filling. The interior looks spacious even when the Audi Q1 is a much smaller SUV. Besides making it small, Audi seems to have not constrained the appearance and comfort inside. The Q1 will have a comfortable seating for five people and is also expected to have enough Headroom, legroom and elbowroom both at the front and rear as well. Sporty leather clad seats will adorn the interiors and make it a typical sporty SUV. There will be four spoke steering with mounted controls on it. Audi Q1 like other SUVs by Audi, takes car of the comfort department pretty well. The three-zone air conditioning with climate control is also expected to be part of Q1. Besides, for those who are allergic to pollens there could be a pollen filter on this new Audi SUV. In order to demystify the rear screen there will be a defogger. Furthermore, Q1 is also expected to have an array of comfort features.
Being an SUV, acceleration is in its veins. Audi Q1 can strut to 100kmph though far behind its big brother Audi Q5 that sprints to this mark in just 7.2 seconds. It is expected that Q1 will have a top speed of 200kmph.
There will be two engine options on the Audi Q1. The petrol car will have 1400cc engine to power it that has a capacity to churn out 125bhp. Initially, industry experts believe that there will be two more petrol options which are expected to deliver 150bhp. There will also be a 1.6L TDi engine option on the Audi Q1 that will be able to produce a maximum power of 120bhp. This new Audi SUV will have a six-speed transmission box to translate the power output by the engine to the wheels. Being an SUV, Audi Q1 will be made to perform decently on any terrain. On the highways or on the most rugged rural roads in India Q1 is expected to cruise like a feather.
SUVs are nobodies friends be it then environment or the fossil fuels but Audi will be putting in latest engineering to make the new Audi Q1 have best in class fuel economy. Since the car is yet to be launched nothing sure can be said about its mileage. However, it is expected to deliver around 8 kmpl in the city and 10 on the highways.
