Tata Motors, one of the India's largest automobile companies has silently introduced a new variant in this model series, which is placed above all the variants. This new trim is christened as Tata Zest Quadrajet 1.3 XTA , which is powered by the fuel efficient 1.3-litre diesel motor. It is mated with a critically acclaimed automated manual transmission gear box that delivers power output to the front wheels. Initially, this AMT gearbox was introduced in the mid range version, but looking at the unprecedented response, the manufacturer has made it available for the to-of-the-line trim. This newly introduced variant gets all the features, which are already available in the existing high end version. These includes reverse parking sensors, dual front airbags and a set of stylish alloy wheels. On the other hand, there are no changes made to the exteriors or interiors of this compact sedan, since it was introduced only a few months ago. This compact sedan has an array of advanced features like ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system designed by Harman featuring a lot of connectivity options. On the other hand, it also gets standard safety aspects like engine immobilizer, ABS with EBD and cornering stability control, which enhances the on-road safety levels. Unlike most of Tata vehicles, this vehicle is available with a warranty of 3 years or 100000 kilometers, whichever comes first.
The external appearance of this sedan is simply stunning owing to its signature cosmetics and radiant exterior features. This latest trim has the same external appearance like its already existing version, but it gets a new 'XTA' chrome badge at the rear, which is the only change. Its front facade has the stylish radiator grille featuring humanitarian line along with company's badge embedded on it. The headlight cluster has a sleek structure and is equipped with projector lamps, which enhances its elegance. It also has a stylish front bumper in body color, but its elegance is emphasized by the signature LED daytime running lights fitted in the fog lamp console. Its side profile remains quite decent, thanks to the beautifully carved fenders and expressive door lines. Its body colored outside mirrors have stylish LED blinkers, which adds to the elegance, while providing additional protection. The most attractive aspect of this vehicle remains to be its stylish alloy wheels, which gives this compact sedan a modernistic stance. Its rear facet looks even attractive, thanks to the dual tone bumper and elegant taillight cluster. Its back door is decorated with a lot of chrome inserts in the form of a horizontally positioned strip and company's badge.
The internal design of this Tata Zest Quadrajet 1.3 XTA trim looks far more stylish than its exteriors. The plastic materials and the metallic accents used inside the cabin are the reason for its regal stance unlike most of sub 4-meter vehicles in its segment. At the same time, the space inside the cabin is ample, which can make it quite comfortable for at least five occupants. Its interiors are done up with a Java black and latte color scheme, which gives an eye-soothing look to the cabin. Its dashboard and the instrument cluster has an ultra-modern design, which is amplified by illuminated control switches. The steering wheel too has an eye-catching three spoke design, which is further mounted with multi-functional switches. The best part about the cabin is its ergonomic seating arrangement, which can provide better comfort to the occupants. On the other hand, there are several utility based features provided inside like drink holders, accessory power sockets, an inside rear view mirror and a glove box.
Engine and Performance:
Powering this latest trim is the same 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel engine that is currently under the hood of other diesel variants. It is based on DOHC valve configuration and is integrated with turbocharger for enhanced power output. This motor comprises of 4-cylinders and 16-valves, which receives fuel through common rail injection system. It can pump out a peak power of 88.8bhp at 4000rpm that yields a pounding torque of 200Nm between 1750 to 3000rpm. The transmission duties are handled by the advanced five speed manual transmission gearbox that delivers torque output to the front wheels. The manufacturer claims that the vehicle can give away a minimum mileage of 19.2 Kmpl on city roads, which goes up to a maximum of 23 Kmpl on highways.
Braking and Handling:
This compact sedan's front axle is fitted with dual-path independent McPherson strut system featuring anti roll bars, whereas the rear axle gets twist beam suspension. In addition to this, both the axles are loaded with coil springs, which enhances its efficiency to absorb jerks. In terms of braking, this vehicle gets disc and drum braking mechanism for its front and rear wheels respectively. At the same time, they are incorporated with anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution. In addition to this, this vehicle also gets a cornering brake control function that enhances its stability while gliding through tight corners.
This Tata Zest Quadrajet 1.3 XTA trim is currently the top end variant in its series, which has all the comfort features on board. It has a list of features including tilt adjustable power steering, fully automatic air conditioning system with heater, foldable key, electrically operated windows, power adjustable outside mirrors, remote central locking system and adjustable rear headrests. In addition to these, it also has rear parking sensors, rear defogger, height adjustable driver's seat and segmented multi-information display. The manufacturer has also blessed this top end variant with a ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system designed by Harman that has 4-speakers along with four tweeters. It features several connectivity options including USB, AUX-In, SD card slot and iPod that makes it quite convenient to stream the audio. This is the first vehicle in its segment to have ABS along with EBD and cornering brake control system, which eventually enhances the stability of this sedan on road.
1. Initial cost of ownership is rather competitive.
2. AMT gearbox is its biggest advantage.
1. Minimum ground clearance is quite low.
2. Lack of CD player is a big drawback.
