Overview
This compact utility vehicle is definitely a milestone for the company since this is the first model, which is completely designed and manufactured by MSIL itself without any help from the Japanese engineers. This machine has indeed got better looks and style compared to its rivals in this segment. With a raised stance, impressive creases and sporty body kit, this vehicle is definitely a head turner on roads. Even the internal section looks appealing with a contemporary design theme and an array of sophisticated elements. The all black color scheme doesn't look dull because of the chrome finishes here and there. For the passenger comfort, there are attributes such as foldable rear seat, automatic AC, power windows and a few storage spaces as well. On the safety front, this variant packs in features like reverse parking camera, anti theft security system, dual front airbags and seat belts that increases protection. Besides, what powers this huge machine is a 1.3-litre diesel engine that comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. With the best-in-class fuel economy, this model certainly stands out among others in this segment.
Exterior
Vitara Brezza is undoubtedly a refreshing model from Maruti that will appeal the young buyers in specific. Its exteriors do come with a number of striking features, but what needs a special mention is the floating roof design that gives it a dynamic character. At front, the sporty perforated radiator grille is mesmerizing, while the chrome finishing further adds to its appearance. The trendy headlight cluster composed of bright projector headlamps, and "Bull horn" LED light guides, looks quite attractive at front. The large size of its lower grille is a benefit as it aids in cooling the engine quickly. Moving to the sides, it gets outside rear view mirrors and handles in body color, whereas the former also includes side turn indicators. The wheel arches look remarkable in square shape and these come fitted with a modish set of 16 inch alloy wheels. Adorning these rims are high performance tubeless tyres of size 215/60 R16. On the other hand, its rear end too includes some arresting aspects like the stylish bumper, which gets matte black cladding and silver garnished skid plate as well. Other noticeable features present in its rear end include the LED high mount stop lamp, split rear combination tail lamps and the thick chrome slat on its tailgate.
Interior
This is a five seater with huge cabin space that can easily accommodate five people and provide them with ample leg as well as head space. It receives all black color scheme, whereas the chrome inserts on a few elements makes it visually appealing. The cabin is packed with several features that not only adds to the utility but also gives superior comfort. Starting with seats, they come covered with fabric upholstery and offer great comfort throughout the drive. The driver's seat can be adjusted accordingly to suit the driving position, whereas the foldable rear seat allows you to make more space for luggage inside. For the entertainment, the Smartplay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink is on the offer. This unit comes with voice command, navigation system, and high quality speakers as well. The cockpit looks elegant with a three spoke steering wheel, illuminated glove box, modish center console and an advanced instrument cluster with 5-preset mood lights in speedometer. Apart from these, the cabin also includes bottle holders, driver side footrest, multi information display, piano black side AC louver, grab handles and various other such useful aspects.
Performance
Diesel
Maruti Vitara Brezza ZDi Plus gets a 1.3-litre oil burner whose displacement capacity is 1248cc. Based on a DOHC valve configuration, it gets four cylinders and 16 valves. It generates a peak power of 88.5bhp and delivers torque output of 200Nm at 1750rpm, which is rather exceptional for a compact SUV. This motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox that drives power to its front wheels. Meanwhile, the highlight definitely remains its class leading mileage figure, which is 24.3 Kmpl on the highways.
Ride Handling
In terms of suspension, this vehicle gets a McPherson strut at front and torsion beam set up in the rear. This system prevents the body roll especially when taking turns and ensures good drive stability. Also it is accompanied by coil springs that minimize the jerks on uneven surfaces. Besides its 198mm ground clearance gives you the confidence to drive over the potholes and other road irregularities. It gets a power steering system that is light weight and eases manoeuvrability even in peak city traffic conditions. As for the braking, it comes equipped with ventilated discs at front and drum brakes in the rear, which perform exceptionally well.
Safety
This compact SUV is based on the Suzuki C platform, and developed to meet the safety norms in global markets. In fact, it is the first vehicle to receive the iCat certificate for offset and side impact compliance. The advanced protective features in this variant include the Suzuki TECT body, dual front airbags, immobilizer and reverse parking sensor with infographic display. Besides these, it also gets the anti theft security system, ABS with EBD and front seat belts with pretensioners and force limiter that enhances the level of safety further.
Verdict
This model is definitely one of the best that Maruti has ever produced considering its design language, safety standards, comfort and performance. This top ranger has got all the elements that anyone would usually look for in a vehicle. Considering the details mentioned above, it is definitely a good buy for those who are looking for a simple compact SUV, which is competitive in price and gives the best performance without compromising with safety.
