City 4th Generation V CVT Review

The Honda City has been a popular option for automatic car buyers ever since its introduction in the 90s. Such is the popularity of the City AT that the top-end petrol variant is not even offered with a manual transmission. The sedan is currently available in three AT variants i.e. V, VX and ZX. Priced at Rs 11.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi, as of 9 May, 2017), the V is the most affordable version and commands a premium of Rs 1.54 lakh over its manual counterpart.

All variants of the Honda City come with dual front airbags, ISOFIX and ABS with EBD as standard. On the outside, the V grade adds elements like halogen fog lights and like the SV grade, it too gets LED turn indicators on the wing mirrors. This is the only variant to feature 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and the first model in the range to get chrome door handles.

Inside, the car gets a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and MirrorLink. The setup also supports Wi-Fi and voice recognition, and gets an HDMI input too. The sound system gets more advanced than the lower variants with the addition of 4 tweeters to the standard 4 speaker setup, while some chrome touches add a premium vibe to the cabin.

The feature list includes automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a push button starter and a rear camera. Yes, you also get paddle-shifters and cruise control to make long distance drives less taxing.

Powering the Honda City i-VTEC CVT V is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 119PS of power and 145Nm of torque. With the CVT, Honda claims the City will deliver a fuel-efficiency of 18kmpl, which is marginally better than its manual equivalent.

The Honda City AT competes with the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid.
