Petrol and diesel prices slashed by Rs 2.50 per litre in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru, Rs 4.37 per litre in Mumbai

Lately, we’ve all been feeling the heat of rising fuel prices across the country. The central government’s decision to slash the excise duty on petrol and diesel on October 5 has come as a much-needed relief to consumers battling inflated fuel prices since August. At its peak, the price of petrol in Delhi stood at Rs 84 per litre, while diesel cost Rs 75.45 per litre. Mumbai, on the other hand, recorded a peak price of Rs 91.34 per litre and Rs 80.10 per litre of petrol and diesel, respectively. However, thanks to the recent price cut of Rs 2.5 per litre, the price for a litre of petrol in Delhi now stands at Rs 81.56, while diesel is priced at Rs 73 per litre.

The prices for both the fuels have come down by around the same amount in Bangalore and Chennai as well. In Mumbai, however, the price of petrol fell by over Rs 4 per litre, while diesel prices fell by Rs 2.65 a litre. It remains to be seen if this price drop is a temporary relief or not.

Prices of petrol and diesel change daily and it’s uncertain whether they would go up from here or come down. Wondering how much of an impact does a Rs 2.5 per litre cut make on your fuel bill? If you fill a 40-litre fuel tank today, you’ll end up saving around Rs 100 on the bill when compared to yesterday’s price. The price of a litre of petrol in Delhi as on April 5 (six months ago) was around Rs 74 per litre, which is Rs 10 per litre less than the current price. Do the math.
