Hyundai i20 N-Line expert review
Exterior
Differentiating between a standard i20 and an i20 N Line won’t be an issue, not just for enthusiasts, but also for the general public. The revisions to the grille, bumpers, alloy wheels, and the red inserts are more than enough to set it apart from the standard i20, which itself is on the sportier side of the segment in terms of looks.

The nose looks purposeful with its pointy stance, flared bumper housings for the fog lights, and the red insert on the lip. There’s an N Line badge on the grille, in case you confuse it for the standard i20. It gets the same headlight unit with the LED projectors and integrated LED DRL.

It sits on 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with red brake callipers at the front, which go well with the angled character lines and body creases, all of which point downwards towards the nose. This makes it look aggressive, and that red insert on the front lip follows onto the side sill too. There’s also an N line badging towards the front fender on either side.

Dual exhaust tips are one of the signature design cues denoting a car’s performance nature, and the i20 N Line flaunts it proudly in what is otherwise a rather plain bumper. The Z-shaped LED taillights are similar to the standard vehicle, and so is the chrome strip connecting them. It also gets a roof-mounted spoiler.
But what isn’t similar is the colour options that Hyundai offers with the i20 N Line. There are five monotone shades: Thunder Blue, Abyss Black, Atlas White, Starry Night, and Titan Grey. The Thunder Blue and Atlas White shades are available with a dual-tone Abyss Black roof as well.
Overall, Hyundai has done enough to justify the N Line tag in terms of visual appearances, and it would take someone highly disconnected with cars in general to confuse it with the standard i20. And with that, it is also the sportiest looking hatchback in the country, this side of the Rs 13 lakh mark.
Interior
The entire vibe of the i20 N Line’s cabin is sporty, right from its theme to its elements. The all black theme immediately makes the cabin feel serious, and the red ambient lighting just adds to that feel. Hyundai has also added N-specific elements like the three-spoke steering wheel, gear lever, chequered flag design on the seats and metal pedals, which uplift the sporty demeanour. I particularly like the manual gear shifter, which looks properly sporty with its round knob and metal finish.

So while Hyundai has nailed the visual treatment, the quality of materials could’ve been better. The dashboard is made entirely of plastic, and while nothing squeaks or rattles, some fabric or soft-touch trims would’ve been nice. There’s leatherette only on the steering wheel, door armrest and gear knob.
Front Seats
Getting in and out of the i20 N Line is fairly easy, and once inside, the slightly firm cushioning of the seats makes you feel really comfortable on longer journeys. There are adequate side supports, too, which don’t feel intrusive for plus-sized individuals.

There is no issue in terms of the overall visibility, and with tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, you can really find a low and sporty driving position by pushing the seats all the way down. If not, your wife or parents will appreciate that you can set them at a higher position so that they can have a commanding view and also feel comfortable behind the wheel.
Rear Seats
Despite its sporty demeanour, the i20 N Line is a fairly accommodating hatchback that can actually seat three people abreast, thanks to the tiny transmission tunnel and scooped-out door pads. Although there’s no middle headrest.

In terms of space, there is ample leg and knee room for the side passengers, and even headroom is generous. So two 6-footers can sit behind each other. If anything could be better, it would’ve been the recline angle, which feels slightly upright, and consequently would’ve helped improve the underthigh support.
It does get rear AC vents and seat back pockets, but misses out on a rear central armrest. Overall, the i20 N Line does offer an accommodating second row space, but it is not the best in the business in terms of its overall experience. Rivals like the Tata Altroz offer better comfort and convenience.
Practicality
In terms of storage options, the cabin of the 2025 Hyundai i20 N Line gets two cup holders, a centre console storage with a wireless charging pad, and some space under the front armrest. All four doors can accommodate 1-litre bottles and hold some other articles as well. The glovebox isn’t sizable, but it gets cooling functionality and can help maintain the temperature of your cold canned drinks. There is a phone holder below the rear AC vents as well.

Charging options
Apart from the wireless phone charger, the i20 N Line gets a 12V socket and a USB Type-A and Type-C charger for the front occupants.

Features
The i20 N Line doesn’t do anything exceptional when it comes to features, but it doesn’t miss out on anything that’s functional and critical either.
| i20 N Line Highlighting Features | |
| Cooled glovebox | Push button start/stop |
| Voice-assisted single-pane sunroof | Keyless entry |
| Auto headlights | Paddle shifters |
| Automatic and powered outside rear view mirrors | Rear AC vents |
| Tilt and telescopic steering wheel | Wireless phone charger |
| Auto AC | Type-C charging port |

It features a 10.25-inch infotainment system, which offers good resolution and response times. It has an easy-to-understand user interface with wired connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The smaller 8-inch touchscreen gets wireless connectivity.
For the driver, there’s a digital cluster with a TFT display in the middle, which relays drive information like fuel efficiency and trip details. It isn’t the most premium setup, but it gets the job done without any functional issues.
For entertainment needs, there’s a 7-speaker BOSE sound system that offers punchy and crisp audio at higher volumes. Features like connected car technology and home-to-car Alexa voice assistance make the ownership experience more convenient, as you can access features like climate control remotely. It also gets a voice-assisted electric sunroof, which adds some light to the cabin, making it feel slightly more airy.
Overall, the i20 N Line doesn’t miss out on any functional equipment, but cars like the Tata Altroz now offer feel-good features like a 360-degree camera and a fully digital driver’s display, which make their experience feel slightly more premium.
Safety
With only two variants on offer, the i20 N Line packs most of its safety equipment as standard, including features like 6 airbags, ISOFIX mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-start assist and rear parking camera with sensors. Only the dashcam, puddle lamps, auto inside rear view mirror, and height-adjustable driver and passenger seat belts are limited to the top variant.

The Hyundai i20 N Line hasn’t been crash tested, but the standard i20 had scored a three-star safety rating from Global NCAP in 2022.
Boot Space
The boot space of 311 litres is identical to the standard i20, and is good enough to fit two medium suitcases with overnight bags. There’s no 60:40 split, however, so you can’t fold the seats and carry large items if need be.

The loading lip is not very high, and the luggage can easily be loaded in the boot, without putting your back into it.
Performance
The Hyundai i20 N Line comes with a sole 1-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine, which can be had with either a manual or dual clutch automatic transmission.

| Engine | 1-litre turbo-petrol |
| Transmission | 6-speed MT/ 7-speed DCT |
| Output | 120PS / 172Nm |
This is the same engine we’ve seen in the Venue N Line, and it is great for people who want a fun-to-drive engine. While refinement levels are impressive, the exhaust has been tuned to cater to the ears of the enthusiasts.
City Performance
Driving the i20 N Line feels like driving any other hatchback. It feels refined, smooth, and just gets the job done without any issues. It doesn’t struggle to keep pace with the traffic in a higher gear and lower RPM combination, and in case you need to drop down a gear, the dual clutch transmission does it for you without any hesitation, while the manual feels slick to operate.

The weight of the clutch isn’t heavy, so you can drive it in congested traffic without tiring your right foot. But the DCT offers the best of both worlds with its convenience in traffic and quick shifts when you want it.
In heavy city traffic, the car might struggle to reach double-digit fuel efficiency figures.
Highway Performance
Drop a gear, step on the throttle, and this car comes alive. Not only does it feel quick, it also has the sound of the exhaust amplifying the experience to make it seem more potent than it actually is.

I never felt the need for more power. All overtakes are a breeze; it hits triple-digit speeds with ease, and can overtake quickly even when you’re simply cruising at triple-digit speeds. The DCT is tuned for efficiency, but push it in Sports mode, and it will hold onto higher RPMs for you. This helps zip through the slow-moving trucks and lane hoggers on our expressways. The performance feels the most punchy in its mid range (3000-4000RPM), and becomes a little flat as you go higher.
You’ll enjoy using the manual transmission, and even the paddle shifters feel quite engaging to use, especially because the engine revs quickly and doesn’t feel lethargic. And with manual control over the transmission, you can also keep the engine in its zone for maximum performance, which can be particularly fun on a flowing road.
While the powertrain is fun to drive, if you drive the car sensibly and do not try to overtake everyone in your way, you can get a fuel efficiency of around 12-14kmpl on the highway.
Ride and Handling
Ride Quality
Despite the slight tuning in its suspension setup that makes the car more sporty, there isn’t a big compromise in ride quality. Yes, you do feel the regular speed breakers and potholes at slightly slower speeds, but it isn’t jarring. I found that increasing the speed of imperfections that allow you to do it can help improve comfort.

On the highway, the stiffer dampening works beautifully in favour of the i20 N Line, where it feels stable and planted at higher speeds. There isn’t movement inside the vehicle over an undulation, and you can carry speeds with confidence.
Handling
Hyundai has added more weight to the steering of the i20 N Line, yet it doesn’t feel tough or hard to manoeuvre in the city. However, you reap the benefits of this heavier steering at higher speeds, where you feel confident at all times, and can actually chuck it into a corner at speeds higher than you think you could.

Even while changing a lane on the expressway at triple-digit speeds, this added weight helps you make that manoeuvre with full control and confidence. All in all, while the mechanical changes might not be significant, they still do enough to transform the driving experience over the standard i20, and make this a slightly more fun hatchback to drive.

The Hyundai i20 N Line is available in two variants: N6 and N8.

CarDekho Recommends:
-
The base N6 variant of the Hyundai i20 N Line does not ask for any functional compromise. If you’re on a budget but want a fun hatchback with a hint of sportiness, then you can pick the base variant.
-
The premium of the N8 variant is justified for all its feel-good and safety feature additions. It can be picked if you want a no-compromise package.
Verdict
The Hyundai i20 N Line might not be the epitome of a hot hatchback, owing to its changes over the standard i20, which are cosmetic for the most part, with a few mechanical tweaks in between. But all its revisions do add up to make a difference in its driving experience, which makes it more thrilling behind the wheel, while still being able to accommodate the family in relative comfort.
