To the man who put you first behind the wheel

Buying a new ride for the family becomes interesting when you father is as enthusiastic as you are abouts cars. It's all about what you desire and what suits him, sometimes your choices even match! On this father's day, we have consolidated few cars that suit well to your dad’s persona. Let us roll, BTW Happy Father’s Day!

For the Flamboyant Dad

The new breed of crossovers has added the desired flamboyance which was missing in the entry level cars. Indeed, it's their flamboyance that has made this segment grow so rapidly and is very popular currently. Now for your little exuberant dad we have three cars in the List

Ford EcoSport

The one thing that set this car stand apart from its peers - it was not crafted out from a hatch. It is based on the Fiesta (hatch) but the design is new from scratch. It had almost a year of waiting period and after like two years with the Chennai facility running 24x7, few variants still attract waiting period. And with a frugal diesel and most power petrol in the portfolio EcoSport has every option for its varied customers.

Fiat Avventura

Despite being based out of the Punto EVO, Avventura holds its own identity courtesy to that boot-lid mounted spare wheel, fat 205 cross-section radials and not-to-miss all the Italian cues. There are not many cars in sub-10 lac bracket that get the second look from the crowd, it does!

Hyundai i20 Active

The latest entrant in sub-4m crossover segment - Hyundai i20 Active gets the dapper tag as Hyundai has offered LED daytime running lights and projector headlamps. The diesel engine in the Active i20 borrowed from the Elite i20 is also the torquier motor among the peers.

For the Adventurous Dad

The crossovers above the sub-4m mark get AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) option and that's a great piece of machinery for all the twisted weekends that your dad likes

Renault Duster AWD

Unlike the sub-4m crossover, Duster looks like a proper crossover-SUV with muscular proportions. And recently it got the AWD too and the ground clearance has been raised by 5 mm to 210 mm (in AWD variant), sounds the right mixture for off-roading, isn't?

XUV5OO AWD

The XUV5OO is premium offering and is generously loaded for what price it comes. You don't get pieces of stuff like a large 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with a mobile App, 6-way power adjustable driver seat, sunroof and safety features like 6-airbags along with ESP (Electronic Stability Control). Moreover, it is also one of the most powerful of the lot with 140bhp and 330 Nm of max torque. And in the price band of 11.21 - 15.99 Lac (Ex-Showroom Delhi) it's a total VFM product.

For the Tough Dad

Both the cars mentioned here has a cult following in the country, one has the timeless Jeep cues - Thar while the other was country’s first indigenously developed 4WD SUV - Safari! Although, Thar is a lifestyle vehicle but still rolls out of the showroom in decent numbers and the recent facelift has bumped the Safari Storme sale slightly.

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar possesses the design that will never age, it’s a timeless design and it looks way cooler than any other car in its price band. This is the most powerful Jeep Mahindra has ever manufactured with common rail turbocharged 2498 cc diesel under the hood with Borg-Warner 4WD transfer case with manual shift. Apart from this, there are tons of, literally tons of aftermarket add-ons which will make your Thar one of in the country.

Tata Safari Storme

The 2015 model year facelift did not bring any noticeable change to Safari Storme's exteriors, save for the Land-Rover Freelander 2 inspired grille. However, Tata has updated the required stuff, you’ll get all-black interiors which look sporty and its gets a premium 6-Speaker Harman derived music system. 2015 Safari Storme has also witnessed nearly 10 horses bump in the power, making it the most powerful offering in the class. Apart from this, it continues with its regular traits, the only car which has a 4WD with LSD - Limited Slip Differential and stuff like heated outside rearview mirrors.

For the Corporate Dad

For you dad’s stature, he requires a car that offers the right amount of opulence and easy, no matter the vehicle is self-driven or chauffeured. These three offer just the right amount of style, space along with best in class in efficiency, just the appropriate package your dad wants.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Maruti’s third attempt in the mid-size sedan space seems to be a perfect one, it has the largest wheelbase in the segment making it the spacious of the lot. It is also the most fuel efficiency in its class both petrol and diesel with over 20+ certified fuel economy. The style is understated, just like most of the people like in this segment and the interiors are also conventional but are well loaded.

Toyota Corolla Altis

Corolla has seen three generations in the country and is the strongest contender in the executive sedan segment. This car has the best resale value, it's reliable and efficient too. In terms of sales figures, it is selling almost double digit compared to the nearest rival. All this because, it is the most stylish and spacious Corolla ever, has the segment first rear seat incline and is pretty well loaded.

For the Pocket Conscious Dad

For all the city runabouts and weekends trips to the nearest grocery stores, your dad needs a car that is light on the pocket but offers plenty of goodies and easy city maneuvering. These two comes with electronic power steering and offers a fair bit of features for the price they ask.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT/Diesel

Celerio started the AMT spree in India and once it was the most economical automatic vehicle you can buy in the country. Recently, it got a diesel heart too, the puny 2-cylinder turbo oil burner is the most fuel efficiency diesel in the country with 27.62 kmpl. Moreover, the petrol is also fuel efficient with 23.1 kmpl certified fuel economy.

Hyundai Grand i10

It is the most flamboyant of the lot and at the price it comes - offer the features that were never-heard-of in any of the hatches in its segment. Things like rear AC vents, passive-keyless entry with engine start-stop, built in one-gigabyte memory audio system and diamond cut alloys. Moreover, it has frugal petrol and diesel engines and also offers an automatic option for the petrol.

For the Sophisticated Dad

If your dad like to be chauffeured around in the town and has a penchant for European premium sedans, there are few in the market to look for.

VW Jetta

It comes standard with 6-airbags and has the same diesel engine that is under Audis and Skodas in the country. It has the most understated looks in the segment but looks totally like German sedan. The overall quality best is one of the best in the segment and with Bi-Xenon headlamps with 15-LED daytime-running-Lights it has a bit of flair too!

Skoda Superb

Skoda facelifted Superb last year and the vehicle is running strong in its segment courtesy to its potent diesel engine and its roomiest cabin. Superb’s USP is how it pampers you on the back seat with acres of legroom, comfortable seats, and buttery smooth ride. And a less known fact, the pampering did not end just end with the rear seats, it also has an umbrella, just like the Rolls Royce in the rear door for you!
