Mahindra XUV500: The luxury hunk from Mahindra
I was planning to buy the Mahindra XUV500 from a very long time and finally I did that in March 2016. Initially, I had a very negative review on how the facelifted version looked like but slowly I became fond of it. The grill though not agressive as the previous generation but still had a muscular look. The large chrome surroundings of the fog lamp also looked nice. The bonnet now had a bold aerodynamic line on it.
Firstly, just after I took delivery of the vehicle, I got a chance to drive it on the highway. I fell in love with the speed, the quick acceleration and the thrill. Feature wise, the car has endless of it. Touchscreen entertainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, Cruise Control, Sunroof, Charging socket at every row, AC vents at every row, Ambience lighting, Climate control air conditioning, Hill hold control, Mahindra app to control to vehicle infotainment, 6 airbags, electronic driver seat, ample storage spaces, rear camera and what not. Name it and it is there in the vehicle. While driving it does not feel like a SUV being driven, it feels as if you are driving a luxury sedan on the road. Gear shift do have some problem as normal SUVs do have.
Negative points are built quality of the vehicle. I had to change my rear suspensions within 4 months of purchase. Thanks to Mahindra for doing it for free. Wipers are problematic and the automatic wipers are not too good considering that it doesn't activate while it is drizzling. Though the automatic headlights are good. I really wanted to have Daytime Running Light instead of the Light Guides. Few plastic fittings are coming off after 6 months of using the vehicle. The glove box does not fit seamlessly with the dashboard.
Concluding the review, thumbs up for it's engine performance but thumbs down for many other things. Do consider buying this only if you do not have a budget to go for Toyota Fortuner or Ford Endeavour.
