Ameo 1.5 TDI Comfortline AT Review

The Volkswagen Ameo 1.5 TDI Comfortline AT comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. It is the most affordable automatic Ameo in the country and is priced at Rs 9.7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi, as of 5 May 2017). It is around Rs 1.3 lakh more expensive than the Ameo 1.5 TDI Comfortline with a manual transmission.

The Ameo 1.5 TDI Comfortline AT is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine which produces 110PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It has the most powerful diesel engine among compact sedans currently on sale in the country. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission shifts quickly and helps return a good fuel efficiency. It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.71 kmpl, which is slightly higher than the claimed 21.66 kmpl of the manual variant. The Ameo comes equipped with dual-airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) as a standard feature. Moreover, the Comfortline AT also gets Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) and Hill Hold control.

It has class-leading features like power windows with one-touch operation (front and rear) and tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel. The Comfortline AT also comes with other features like cruise control, height adjustable driver seat and a monochrome multi-function display (MFD) that shows travelling time, distance travelled, digital speed display, average speed and fuel efficiency and an infotainment system that supports USB, Aux-in and SD card input with four speakers.

However, the Ameo 1.5 TDI Comfortline AT does miss out on a lot of features which are offered in the Highline variant. For instance, the alloy wheels, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, front fog lamps, rear defogger, automatic rain-sensing wipers, reverse parking camera and sensors, automatic climate control, rear AC vent, electrically foldable ORVMs and a touchscreen infotainment system with voice command are all given a miss.
