Evalia XV Option 2012-2014 Review

Considering the strong competition existing in the MPV segment of cars in India, Nissan brings a more upmarket version of its MPV model, Evalia. The variant is codenamed as Nissan Evalia XV S , which has been placed above the earlier top end variant XV. And now XV S being the top of the line will definitely be priced higher than the XV variant. As far as design is concerned, it has not been changed, while there are few additional features added to its interiors that enhances the overall appeal. The facelift model gets a rear wiper, rear AC vents, sliding rear windows and doors, and 15"inch alloy wheels. Nissan has worked to improve the comfort levels of this MPV, while keeping in mind a better driving experience for the user. The variant comes with a 1.5-liter dCi diesel engine, which is capable to deliver maximum power output of 88bhp and top torque of 200Nm. The model has claimed fuel economy of 19.3kmpl.

Exteriors :

The design philosophy of the newly added variant Nissan Evalia XV S has been continued, that features a monocoque body, which is light and provides a sedan like drive. As such the MPV looks large and compact, which is a perfect seven seater vehicle that is best suited for the Indian families. The front end sports a stylish radiator grille that has received some chrome treatment over it, and is surrounded by halogen lamps which serves the superior visibility. There are front fog lamps which also enhances the visibility in case of driving in darker regions. The sides features 15"inch alloy wheels mounted under perfectly carved wheel arches, and to add to the side looks, manufacturers have also gone for body color door handles and again body colored rear view mirrors. To increase the practicality aspect of the MPV, there are sliding doors and sliding windows. The rear design comprises of tail lamps with chrome finish, rear wiper, rear defogger while the large tail gate defines the perfect MPV look.

Interiors :

The Evalia XV S variant has received maximum updates in its interiors. The Nissan Evalia is considered to be class-apart when it comes to the interiors of any MPV. The company has put all its efforts to make this MPV truly stand for the multipurpose usage. While talking about its practicality and the innovations implemented, the MPV gets an I-Key option which makes it easy to start the vehicle, also gets twin sliding doors and a rear view camera for easy access and great additions done to make parking convenient in tighter spaces. There is also a gear shift indicator that displays the correct time to change the gear, and makes the drive more economical. Manufacturers have made this MPV very capacious, basically it is a seven seater car but seats are foldable to create larger space while carrying excess luggage. The second and third row seats can folded in order to create more space, while the XV S variant gets new captain seats in it.

Engine and Performance :

Under the hood, the facelift variant comes with a 1.5-liter dCi diesel engine that puts out maximum power output of 88bhp and top torque of 200Nm. The diesel engine is mated with a five speed manual transmission, which transmits the drive to the front wheels. Nissan claims the fuel economy of 19.3kmpl , the figures are definitely impressive compared to other brand cars of the same segment. The Pure Drive option mechanized with the engine makes sure there are lower carbon emissions, and thus lower carbon footprint. Evalia comes with a monocoque body structure that makes the vehicle feel really light, and it almost feels like a sedan rather than a MPV.

Braking and Handling :

The braking system comprises of front wheels having Disc type brakes , while the rear wheels get Drum type brakes fitted on them. Such combination of brakes are proved to be very efficient, especially in case of sudden brakes when applied. The suspension system is built with McPherson Strut type coil spring at the front and multi leaf rigid at the rear, that makes the ride comfortable and suppresses the severe jerks usually felt on Indian roads. To enhance the handling of the car, this time the company came up with tilt steering option that helps in easy navigation when on city roads. The wheelbase of 2725mm, ground clearance of 180mm and a small turning radius of 5.2m, enables smooth handling of this hugely built MPV even in city traffic conditions.

Comfort Features :

The MPV is highly ergonomically built vehicle with host of comfort features added to it. There are cup holders at various places, 12 V charger, open central compartment , central compartment storage, sliding door pockets, large upper glove box, parcel tray, front door pocket and various others. The Nissan Evalia XV S variant has got rear AC vents for the comfort of rear occupants, there is ample legroom and also a footrest added, also the tilt steering option makes it very effortless to drive the Evalia even in heavy city traffic condition. Seats are also firm and provides a good support, the facelift model also receives cushion pillow set , seat belt pad, steering wheel cover and neck pillow, all in Beige and Greige color shades. There is also a 2-Din audio system with USB provided for the entertainment need of the occupants.

Safety Features :

This newly launched Nissan Evalia XV S gets Anti-braking system (ABS) with electric brake-force distribution (EBD) and brake assist that increases the braking effect and stabilizes the vehicle in case of severe accidents. There is a high mounted stop lamp at the rear and reverse parking camera, which provides guidance while parking in tighter spaces.

Pros : Spacious interiors, better driveabilty.

Cons : Boxy design.
