The WhatsApp chatbot is integrated with Vahan and Sarthi database of the Indian Government, and facilitates challan status, driving licence details and more functions
The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has introduced a WhatsApp chatbot to offer key RTO-related services to the citizens. This chatbot is integrated with Vahan and Sarthi database and hence, makes it easier for users to access functions like driving licence details, vehicle registration services, challan status and more, without visiting the RTO office. The chatbot also offers a step-by-step process for other essential services such as road tax payment, application status tracking and transfer of vehicle ownership.
If you are keen on using these services on WhatsApp, here is a detailed guide to help you with it.
How To Access The WhatsApp Chatbot?
-
The chatbot can be accessed by sending a ‘Hi’ message on WhatsApp to +918005441222.
-
After sending the message, the chatbot will ask you to select a language you will be comfortable in having the conversation with. For now, this conversation can be had in either English or Hindi.
-
Now, the WhatsApp chatbot will welcome you with a message and a menu with the type of information that you need help with. The menu includes options for services regarding driving license, vehicle registrations, viewing and payment of challans, commercial vehicle permit, road safety, faceless (online) services, road-related services for the user’s convenience and safety as well as another option for all the important announcements by the transport department.
-
After selecting the required service option in the menu, you have to just follow the prompts and the information will be shared with you in a PDF format.
-
After the information is provided, the chatbot then provides you with an option to either return to the main or the previous menu. You can select the option as per your requirements.

How Does The Chatbot Benefit The Users?
The WhatsApp chatbot is available 24x7 and hence provides its services to the users beyond the ‘working hours’ and even on holidays. It also makes processing times faster as there is no need to wait in a queue or visit the RTO to get the services done. The integration of RTO services into a messaging platform like WhatsApp also eliminates all middlemen to get a task done.
Moreover, one major benefit of being able to access the transport services through WhatsApp is the easier document uploads. Now, you can just send the required documents as per the selected prompts in the menu, meaning that there is no requirement for photocopying or physically attesting the documents.
