Why The Datsun redi-GO Is A Great First-Time Car (Sponsored Post)

Modified On Mar 22, 2017 12:19 PM By CarDekho for Datsun RediGO

If you are a first-time car buyer, looking for something that is both practical and extremely good value-for-money, it pays to check out the Datsun redi-GO. Datsun’s tallboy, redi-GO which was launched in 2016 is the most inexpensive passenger hatchback in the country. The redi-GO competes with the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, but offers better value. With its contemporary looks and sporty styling, redi-GO looks quite attractive when compared to the Alto 800, which is quite conventional.

The redi-GO being a tallboy, is able to offer excellent headroom inside the cabin. It also gets class-leading ground clearance of 185 mm (whereas Alto’s is slightly lower at 160mm), which helps it tackle most of the bad roads in India. Being a first car also requires it to have decent boot space. The Datsun redi-GO with 222 liters of boot space trumps Alto 800 (177 liters) in this regard.

Now to the engine, both the cars get 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol motors. redi-GO’s motor produces 54 PS of power and 72 Nm of torque, which is substantially more when compared to the Alto 800’s 49 PS of power and 69 Nm torque. redi-GO’s better power/torque figures when coupled with its lighter kerb weight translates into impressive performance on road. The car can go from 0-100 km/h in 15.98 seconds.

Fuel efficiency is always one of the top priorities for a first-time car buyer and the redi-GO tops the list of entry-level hatchbacks with its impressive figure of 25.17 km/l. The Datsun redi-GO also gets a driver’s side airbag as an option. It also has daytime running lamps, which are an essential safety feature and styling element. The redi-GO Sport variant that was added to the car’s line-up, the hatchback has become even more interesting with its racy decals, rear spoiler and sporty interiors. The Sport variant also gets a bluetooth-enabled audio system, remote key-less entry and rear parking sensors, which again makes it quite a car for the money.

(The Datsun redi-GO is priced between Rs 2.39 lakh and Rs 3.49 lakh, while Alto 800 is priced between Rs 2.46 lakh and Rs 3.75 lakh).
